United We Stand: 9.11.01

Spring 2011 NBA Playoffs:
After 81 Spring 2011 NBA playoff games, the Dallas Mavericks emerged as the 2011 NBA champions, defeating the Miami Heat in a rematch of the 2006 NBA Finals which crowned the Miami Heat as the 2006 NBA champions. The title is the first NBA championship for the Dallas Mavericks. The Dallas route to the 2011 NBA championship went through the Portland Trailblazers in six games in the NBA Preliminary round, through the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers via a four-game sweep in the NBA Quarterfinals, and through the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the NBA Semifinals. The Dallas Mavericks played 21 best-of-7 NBA playoff games en route to the NBA championship - the fewest such games since 2007, when the San Antonio Spurs played 20 playoff games en route to the 2007 NBA championship.

Spring 2011 NHL Playoffs:
After 89 Spring 2011 NHL playoff games, the Boston Bruins emerged as the 2011 NHL champions, defeating the Vancouver Canucks. The title is the fifth NHL championship won by the Boston Bruins through a best-of-7 NHL Finals series. The Boston route to the 2011 NHL championship went through their longtime-rival Montreal Canadiens (the Bruins-Canadiens match-up is the most frequently occurring in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff history) in seven games in the NHL Preliminary round, through the Philadelphia Flyers via a four-game sweep in the NHL Quarterfinals (thus avenging the Boston loss in the 2010 NHL Quarterfinals, in which the Bruins had led 3-games-nil but lost 4-games-3 to Philadelphia), and through the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games in the NHL Semifinals. The Boston Bruins played 25 best-of-7 NHL playoff games en route to the NHL championship - a tie for the most such games, as the Carolina Hurricanes also played 25 playoff games en route to the 2006 NHL championship.

Fall 2011 MLB Playoffs:
After 19 Fall 2011 MLB best-of-7 format playoff games, the St. Louis Cardinals emerged as the 2011 MLB champions, defeating the Texas Rangers. The title is the eleventh MLB championship won by the St. Louis Cardinals through a best-of-7 MLB Finals series. The St. Louis route to the 2011 MLB championship went through the Milwaukee Brewers in six games in the MLB Semifinals. The St. Louis Cardinals played 13 best-of-7 MLB playoff games en route to the MLB championship - the most such games since the Florida Marlins also played 13 best-of-7 MLB playoff games en route to the 2003 MLB championship.

1154 Best-of-7 Series:
In the best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL "era" (since 1905 in MLB; since 1939 in the NHL; since 1947 in the NBA), 1154 best-of-7 playoff series have now been completed. This site went online in April 1999, and has offered historical victory probabilities and team performance information on the last 382 of these 1154 series (.331). Look for in-series coverage through this site to return in April 2012 for the Spring 2012 playoff season, featuring the NHL and (if they play it) NBA playoff series.
