This table tells you franchise best-of-7 series win-loss records in the Preliminary round, irrespective of whether Game 1 was played at home or on the road. Usually, though not always, the team playing Game 1 at home is the team with home court/field/ice advantage during that best-of-7 playoff series. Through 2002, only the NHL used the best-of-7 format in Preliminary-round playoff series, having done so since 1987. Starting in 2003, both the NHL and the NBA have done so. NHL Preliminary rounds have been known as Conference Quarterfinals since 1994, but were previously best-of-7 Division Semifinals from 1987 through 1993. Series round = Preliminary Game 1 Location = Home or Road Sorted by winning fraction, then by series appearances A = series appearances W = series wins L = series losses Frc. = winning fraction (= %/100) Bold numbers denote largest values for the table column Table updated through Fall 2012
