MLB, NBA, NHL BEST-OF-7 SERIES WINNERS/LOSERS 1905 - FALL 2007 (CHRONOLOGICAL LISTING)
The following table is an approximately chronological listing of MLB, NBA, and NHL best-of-7 series results. For a given year, the NHL series are listed first, followed by the NBA series and the MLB series (in that order). For cross-sport comparison purposes, "Finals" refers to the championship round (i.e., the World Series in Major League Baseball and the Stanley Cup Finals in the National Hockey League), "Semis" refers to the penultimate round (the League Championship Series in Major League Baseball; the Conference finals in the NHL and NBA - a "Final Four"), "Qtrs" refers to the third-to-last round (the Conference semifinals in the NHL and NBA - an "Elite Eight"), and "Prelim" refers to the fourth-to-last round (the Conference quarterfinals in the NHL and, as of 2003, the NBA - a "Sweet Sixteen"). An argument can be made that this table should include the 1919 incipient-NHL series between the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators; this series (think of it as series 14a) is excluded due to its anomalous nature.
