SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: The Oklahoma City Thunder visited and defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 115-pts-110 to complete a 4-games-nil best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1642 victory. With the series 1642 win, the Oklahoma City Thunder improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 17-11 (with an active six-series winning streak befitting a defending NBA champion) overall and 6-2 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1642 loss, the Los Angeles Lakers see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 75-36 overall and 27-10 in the Quarterfinals round. The win order for the victorious Oklahoma City Thunder in series 1642 was WWWW: Series 1642 thus becomes the 32nd NBA Quarterfinals-round series, the 100th NBA series (all rounds), and the 264th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The last best-of-7 NBA Quarterfinals playoff series loss by the Los Angeles Lakers was also to the Oklahoma City Thunder, in series 1181 in the 2012 NBA Quarterfinals. The irony to series 1642 becoming the 100th four-game sweep in best-of-7 NBA playoff series history is that the swept team is the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Los Angeles Lakers lead NBA entities with achieving 13 four-game sweeps in best-of-7 NBA playoff series. The Lakers are also the most swept team in best-of-7 NBA playoff series history, having felt the broom nine times (including series 1642) in Los Angeles and once while still in Minneapolis.

After Game 3: The Oklahoma City Thunder visited and bested the Los Angeles Lakers 131-pts-108 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1642 lead of 3-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a series record of 6-0 and a Game 4 record of 4-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Los Angeles Lakers have a series record of 0-9 and a Game 4 record of 1-8. In two previous series did the team with a site order of HHV (as the Oklahoma City Thunder have in series 1642) win Games 1-3 of a best-of-7 NBA playoff series by 18+ points each: In series 374, the Boston Celtics did so in the 1980 NBA Quarterfinals, and swept their series against the Houston Rockets; in series 816, the Portland Trailblazers did so in the 2000 NBA Quarterfinals, and won their series against the Utah Jazz in five games.

After Game 2: The Oklahoma City Thunder hosted and bested the Los Angeles Lakers 125-pts-107 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1642 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a series record of 8-0 and a Game 3 record of 6-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Los Angeles Lakers have a series record of 2-20 (with an active seven-series losing streak) and a Game 3 record of 13-9. The series 1642 Game 2 victory by the Oklahoma City Thunder is the sixth consecutive Game 2 victory in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After Game 1: The Oklahoma City Thunder hosted and outscored the Los Angeles Lakers 108-pts-90 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1642 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Oklahoma City Thunder have a series record of 10-5 and a Game 2 record of 8-7. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Los Angeles Lakers have a series record of 13-28 (with an active four-series losing streak) and a Game 2 record of 19-22. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series beginning with 1947, teams such as the Oklahoma City Thunder in series 1642 which win Game 1 at home by eighteen or more points had a 102-18 (.850) series record. Irrespective of Game 1 outcome in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Oklahoma City Thunder take an active five-Game 2 winning streak into series 1642 Game 2. Leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Oklahoma City Thunder have seen their Game 2 outcome presage their series outcome in their last seven such series (four wins, three losses).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2025-26 NBA regular season, the Oklahoma City Thunder finished eleven games ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers. From 1947 through the 2026 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by eleven regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 28-6 (.824) in those series against those opponents. Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1642 is the 28th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the 111th for the Los Angeles Lakers. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Oklahoma City Thunder have an all-rounds series record of 16-11 (with an active five-series winning streak befitting a defending NBA champion), a Quarterfinals-round series record of 5-2, and a Game 1 record of 15-12, while the Los Angeles Lakers have an all-rounds series record of 75-35, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 27-9, and a Game 1 record of 69-41. Series 1642 is the third best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Lakers. Oklahoma City and the Lakers split their first two best-of-7 NBA playoff series against each other.
