SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The Florida Panthers hosted and topped the Edmonton Oilers 5-goals-1 to complete a 4-games-2 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 victory. With the series 1598 win, the Florida Panthers improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 15-8 (with an active eight-series winning streak befitting a two-time NHL champion) overall and 2-2 in the Finals round. With the series 1598 loss, the Edmonton Oilers see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 39-19 overall and 5-4 in the Finals round. The win order for the victorious Florida Panthers in series 1598 was LWWLWW: Series 1598 thus becomes the third NHL Finals-round series, the 23rd NHL series (all rounds), and the 43rd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The series 1598 victory by the Florida Panthers wins them their second consecutive NHL championship. The 2025 NHL champion Florida Panthers, lacking home-ice advantage in the 2025 NHL Finals, nevertheless win an NHL Finals in which neither participant held home-ice advantage on their respective paths to the Finals (a road-warrior quirk last occurring in the 2012 NHL playoffs which crowned the Los Angeles Kings as champions).

After Game 5: The Florida Panthers visited and defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-goals-2 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Florida Panthers have a series record of 6-1 (with an active five-series winning streak) and a Game 6 record of 4-3. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Edmonton Oilers have a series record of 4-8 and a Game 6 record of 8-4. The LWWLW @ VVHHV win/site order in series 1598 is the first such win/site order through the first five games of a best-of-7 NHL playoff series since series 1464, in which the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2021 NHL Semifinals. NHL teams such as Florida in series 1598 which notch a LWWLW @ VVHHV win/site order have an active 17-series winning streak (with two of the victories by the Edmonton Oilers though none by the Florida Panthers); the last series loss sustained by an NHL team leading in such manner was sustained by the Detroit Red Wings in series 161, which lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1964 NHL Finals. With their series 1598 Game 5 victory, the Florida Panthers now enjoy an active four-Game 5 winning streak (irrespective of Games 1-4 outcomes) in best-of-7 NHL playoff series; with their series 1598 Game 5 loss, the Edmonton Oilers see their five-Game 5 winning streak (irrespective of Games 1-4 outcomes) snapped.

After Game 4: The Edmonton Oilers visited and topped the Florida Panthers 5-goals-4(OT) to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 at 2-games-all. The Edmonton Oilers trailed their host Florida Panthers by three goals as late as 3:32 into the second period of their series 1598 Game 4, but prevailed: In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2024, inclusive, road teams down three goals as late as 3:32 into the second period had a game record of only 7-162 (.041) - the Edmonton Oilers thus achieve a grade-A (.000 - .099) in-game comeback. With their series 1598 Game 4 victory, the Edmonton Oilers extend their Game 4 winning streak in best-of-7 NHL playoff series to ten Game 4s. In best-of-7 NHL Finals history, the sole team to post a WLLW @ HHVV win/site order (such as Edmonton in series 1598) but lose the series was the Montreal Canadiens, to the Toronto Maple Leafs in series 182 (the 1967 NHL Finals).

After Game 3: The Florida Panthers hosted and topped the Edmonton Oilers 6-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 lead of 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Florida Panthers have a series record of 3-1 and a Game 4 record of 2-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Edmonton Oilers have a series record of 8-9 and a Game 4 record of 9-8 (with an active five-Game 4 winning streak). Leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Florida Panthers suffered their sole series loss in series 1157, to the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 NHL Preliminary round. Irrespective of Games 1-3 outcomes, the Edmonton Oilers have an active nine-Game 4 winning streak in best-of-7 NHL playoff series. The Florida Panthers after series 1598 Game 3 lead the 2025 NHL Finals with a LWW @ VVH win/site order against the Edmonton Oilers: When the Edmonton Oilers themselves post a LWW @ VVH win/site order after three games of a best-of-7 NHL playoff series, they have a perfect 6-0 series record . . . and thus offer a most favorable paradigm to the Florida Panthers in series 1598.

After Game 2: The Florida Panthers visited and topped the Edmonton Oilers 5-goals-4(2OT) to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Edmonton Oilers have a series record of 22-7 and a Game 3 record of 18-11, while the Florida Panthers have a series record of 6-3 and a Game 3 record of 3-6. Series 1598 becomes the first best-of-7 NHL Finals in which both Games 1-2 required overtime since the 2014 NHL Finals. The 47:34 of overtime required to settle 2025 NHL Finals Games 1-2 is the most in best-of-7 NHL Finals Games 1-2 since the 2013 NHL Finals, in which 65:56 of overtime was played in Chicago in the two-game split between the Blackhawks and the visiting Boston Bruins. Series 1598 Game 2 ended with a Florida goal at 8:05 into the second overtime; once before in best-of-7 NHL playoff history (since 1939, inclusive) did a game end at 8:05 into the second overtime: Series 706 Game 5, in which Florida also scored at 8:05 into the second overtime in Philadelphia to defeat the Flyers in their 1996 NHL Quarterfinals Game 5, en route to the 1996 NHL Finals. The series 1598 Game 2 win by Florida in Edmonton breaks a five-Game 2 winning streak by the home team (irrespective of Game 1 outcome) in best-of-7 NHL Finals.

After Game 1: The Edmonton Oilers hosted and defeated the Florida Panthers 4-goals-3(OT) to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Edmonton Oilers have a series record of 24-3 and a Game 2 record of 16-11. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Florida Panthers have a series record of 4-7 and a Game 2 record of 5-6. With the series 1598 Game 1 victory by the Oilers in Edmonton, home teams in NHL Finals now have a five-Game 1 winning streak, and already have a five-Game 2 winning streak in the NHL Finals irrespective of Game 1 outcome. The Edmonton Oilers trailed the visiting Florida Panthers by two goals as late as 3:16 into the second period of series 1598 Game 1, but won: In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2024, inclusive, home teams down two goals as late as 3:16 into the second period had a game record of only 54-307 (.150) - the Edmonton Oilers thus achieve a grade-B (.100 - .199) in-game comeback in their 2025 NHL Finals Game 1 against Florida.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2024-25 NHL regular season, the Edmonton Oilers finished three points ahead of the Florida Panthers. From 1939 through the 2025 NHL Semifinals round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by three regular-season points, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 18-23 (.439) in those series against those opponents. Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1598 is the 58th best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the Edmonton Oilers, and the 23rd for the Florida Panthers. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, the Edmonton Oilers have an all-rounds series record of 39-18, a Finals-round series record of 5-3, and a Game 1 record of 27-30, while the Florida Panthers have an all-rounds series record of 14-8 (with an active seven-series winning streak befitting a defending NHL champion returning to the NHL Finals), a Finals-round series record of 1-2, and a Game 1 record of 11-11. Series 1598 is the second best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers. Series 1598 is a rematch of series 1565, in which the Florida Panthers took a 3-games-nil lead over the Edmonton Oilers and held on to win the 2024 NHL Finals in seven games.
