SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: The Arizona Diamondbacks visited and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-runs-2 to complete a 4-games-3 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 victory. With the series 1549 win, the Arizona Diamondbacks improve their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Semifinals round. With the series 1549 loss, the Philadelphia Phillies see their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record fall to 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the Semifinals round. The win order for the victorious Arizona Diamondbacks in series 1549 was LLWWLWW: Series 1549 thus becomes the first MLB Semifinals-round series, the second MLB series (all rounds), and the 21st MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The Arizona Diamondbacks in series 1549 become the first MLB/NBA/NHL team (in eight tries) to open a best-of-7 playoff series LLWWL @ VVHHH, and then win Games 6-7 on the road to win the series; in the previous seven series, only twice did the trailing team even force a Game 7. The only previous MLB team to win a best-of-7 playoff series through a LLWWLWW win order was the New York Mets, over the Boston Red Sox in series 475 (in the 1986 MLB Finals). With their series 1549 Game 7 victory, the Arizona Diamondbacks improve their MLB playoff Game 7 record to 2-0; with their series 1549 Game 7 loss, the Philadelphia Phillies lose the first Game 7 they've played in franchise history.

After Game 6: The Arizona Diamondbacks visited and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5-runs-1 to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 at 3-games-all. When tied 3-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Philadelphia Phillies have a Game 7 record of 0-0, while the Arizona Diamondbacks have a Game 7 record of 1-0. Series 1549 Game 7 is the first road Game 7 for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the first Game 7 overall for the Philadelphia Phillies. The sole previous Game 7 by the Arizona Diamondbacks was in series 847, in which Arizona hosted and defeated the New York Yankees in the 2001 MLB Finals. Two previous best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series also followed a WWLLWL @ HHVVVH win-site order through the first six games: in series 65, the New York Yankees posted that win-site order, and hosted and defeated the old Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 7 of the 1947 MLB Finals; in series 953, the San Antonio Spurs posted that win-site order, and hosted and defeated the Detroit Pistons in Game 7 of the 2005 NBA Finals.

After Game 5: The Philadelphia Phillies visited and defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-runs-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Philadelphia Phillies have a series record of 2-0 and a Game 6 record of 2-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 6 record of 1-0. Twice before have Philadelphia teams opened a best-of-7 MLB playoff series with a WWLLW @ HHVVV win-site order: In series 23 (the 1930 MLB Finals), the old Philadelphia Athletics defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 to win the series; in series 381 (fifty years later in the 1980 MLB Finals), the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Kansas City Royals in Game 6 to win the series. Only once before have the Arizona Diamondbacks trailed a best-of-7 MLB playoff series 3-games-2: In series 847 (the 2001 MLB Finals), the Diamondbacks defeated the New York Yankees in Games 6-7 to win the series.

After Game 4: The Arizona Diamondbacks hosted and topped the Philadelphia Phillies 6-runs-5 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Philadelphia Phillies have a series record of 2-1 and a Game 5 record of 2-1, while the Arizona Diamondbacks have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 5 record of 0-1. The Arizona Diamondbacks trailed the visiting Philadelphia Phillies by two runs after seven innings, but prevailed: In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff games from 1905 through 2022, inclusive, home teams down two runs as late as after seven innings had a game record of only 14-87 (.139) - the Arizona Diamondbacks thus achieve a grade-B in-game comeback in series 1549 Game 4. In all three best-of-7 MLB playoff series in which the Philadelphia Phillies found themselves tied 2-games-all after four games, their Game 5 outcome presaged their series outcome (two victories, one loss). The sole best-of-7 MLB playoff series in which the Arizona Diamondbacks were tied 2-games-all after four games was series 847: Arizona would lose Game 5 to the Yankees in New York, but rally to win the 2001 MLB Finals in seven games.

After Game 3: The Arizona Diamondbacks hosted and topped the Philadelphia Phillies 2-runs-1 to reduce the Philadelphia Phillies best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 1549 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Philadelphia Phillies have a series record of 5-1 and a Game 4 record of 4-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 4 record of 0-0. The sole best-of-7 MLB playoff series lost by the Philadelphia Phillies in the wake of a 2-games-1 lead was Philadelphia's last such series, to the Houston Astros in series 1517 (the 2022 MLB Finals). The Arizona Diamondbacks after series 1549 Game 3 now trail a best-of-7 MLB playoff series 2-games-1 for the first time in franchise history. The series 1549 Game 3 victory by the Diamondbacks is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff game victory since series 847, in Game 7 of the 2001 MLB Finals over the New York Yankees.

After Game 2: The Philadelphia Phillies hosted and shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-runs-nil to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Philadelphia Phillies have a series record of 2-0 and a Game 3 record of 0-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 3 record of 0-1. Series 1549 Game 2 constituted the most lopsided Game 2 shutout in best-of-7 MLB playoff Game 2 history, breaking the old record of 9-runs-nil set by the Giants in San Francisco over the Texas Rangers in series 1121 (2010 MLB Finals) Game 2. Series 1549 Game 2 constituted the most lopsided shutout in best-of-7 MLB Semifinals games since series 1087 (2009 National League Championship Series) Game 3, wherein the Phillies in Philadelphia defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-runs-nil. The series 1549 Game 2 victory by the Philadelphia Phillies ends their five-Game 2 losing streak in the wake of a best-of-7 MLB playoff Game 1 victory. The sole previous best-of-7 MLB playoff series which the Arizona Diamondbacks trailed 2-games-nil was series 1021, in which Arizona trailed the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 National League Championship Series (Arizona was swept in four games by Colorado in series 1021).

After Game 1: The Philadelphia Phillies hosted and bested the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-runs-3 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1549 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Philadelphia Phillies have a series record of 6-4 and a Game 2 record of 2-8 (with an active five-Game 2 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 2 record of 0-1. Trailing a best-of-7 MLB playoff series 1-game-nil, the Arizona Diamondbacks have a 0-1 series record and a 0-1 Game 2 record: The sole previous best-of-7 MLB playoff series which the Arizona Diamondbacks trailed 1-game-nil was series 1021, to the Colorado Rockies in the 2007 National League Championship Series (Arizona was swept in four games by Colorado in series 1021). In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series, teams winning Game 1 at home by two runs (such as Philadelphia in series 1549) have a 15-9 (.625) series record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2023 MLB regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies finished six games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks. From 1905 through the 2022 MLB Finals round, when MLB teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by six regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 9-5 (.643) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1549 is the 14th best-of-7 MLB playoff series for the Philadelphia Phillies, and the fourth for the Arizona Diamondbacks. In best-of-7 MLB playoff series, the Philadelphia Phillies have an all-rounds series record of 6-7, a Semifinals-round series record of 4-1, and a Game 1 record of 10-3, while the Arizona Diamondbacks have an all-rounds series record of 2-1, a Semifinals-round series record of 1-1, and a Game 1 record of 2-1. Series 1549 is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff series meeting between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. In best-of-7 MLB Semifinals series, the sole series loss sustained by the Philadelphia Phillies occurred in series 1120, in which the Phillies lost to the San Francisco Giants in the 2010 National League Championship Series.
