SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The Vegas Golden Knights visited and shut out the San Jose Sharks 3-goals-nil to complete a 4-games-2 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 victory. With the series 1364 win, the Vegas Golden Knights improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1364 loss, the San Jose Sharks see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 18-20 overall and 4-9 in the Quarterfinals round. The win order for the victorious Vegas Golden Knights in series 1364 was WLWLWW: Series 1364 thus becomes the third NHL Quarterfinals-round series, the 20th NHL series (all rounds), and the 45th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The last team to follow the WLWLWW win order to a best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals series victory (as the Vegas Golden Knights did in series 1364) was the Calgary Flames, in series 916 (over the Detroit Red Wings in the 2004 NHL Quarterfinals); Calgary would advance to the 2004 NHL Finals, losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games.

After Game 5: The Vegas Golden Knights hosted and bested the San Jose Sharks 5-goals-3 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Vegas Golden Knights have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 6 record of 0-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 1-11 (with an active 11-series losing streak) and a Game 6 record of 3-9. Series 1364 Game 5 is the third in best-of-7 NHL playoff game history in which the home team netted four goals to open the game, the visitors responded with the next three goals, and the home team completed the scoring with a goal to complete a 5-goals-3 victory. In series 761 Game 3 (in the 1998 NHL Semifinals), the Detroit Red Wings hosted and defeated the Dallas Stars 5-goals-3 via an HHHHVVVH scoring pattern. In series 45 Game 2 (in the 1943 NHL Semifinals), the Boston Bruins hosted and defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-goals-3 via an HHHHVVVH scoring pattern. The 1943 Boston Bruins went on to be swept in the NHL Finals; the 1998 Detroit Red Wings went on to sweep the NHL Finals.

After Game 4: The San Jose Sharks hosted and shut out the Vegas Golden Knights 4-goals-nil to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Vegas Golden Knights have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 5 record of 0-0, while the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 6-10 and a Game 5 record of 7-9.

After Game 3: The Vegas Golden Knights visited and defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-goals-3 in overtime to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 lead of 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Vegas Golden Knights have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 4 record of 0-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 3-11 (with an active five-series losing streak) and a Game 4 record of 9-5. Series 1364 Game 3 becomes the second best-of-7 NHL playoff game to end at 8:17 into the first overtime period: In series 627 Game 5, the Montreal Canadiens scored at 8:17 into the first overtime period to defeat the old Nordiques in Quebec City 5-goals-4 in their 1993 NHL Preliminary-round series (en route to the 1993 NHL championship).

After Game 2: The San Jose Sharks visited and bested the Vegas Golden Knights 4-goals-3 in double overtime to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Vegas Golden Knights have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 3 record of 0-0 (since series 1364 Game 2 is their first-ever NHL playoff game loss), while the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 9-6 and a Game 3 record of 9-6. The winning goal in series 1364 Game 2 was scored 5:13 into the second overtime period, thus making series 1364 Game 2 the third-longest Spring 2018 NHL playoff game to date; the longest has been series 1359 Game 2, in which the Vegas Golden Knights themselves hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Kings with a goal 15:22 into the second overtime period.

After Game 1: The Vegas Golden Knights hosted and shut out the San Jose Sharks 7-goals-nil to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1364 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Vegas Golden Knights have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 2 record of 1-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 5-12 and a Game 2 record of 6-11. The 7-goals-nil shutout by the Vegas Golden Knights in series 1364 Game 1 ties Vegas with the Edmonton Oilers (in series 562, 7-goals-nil over the Los Angeles Kings in their 1990 NHL Quarterfinals Game 1) for the second-most lopsided shutout in best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals Game 1 history, next only to the Boston Bruins (in series 203, 10-goals-nil over the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 1969 NHL Quarterfinals Game 1). Both the 1990 Oilers and the 1969 Bruins won their respective series via four-game sweeps. In their last eleven best-of-7 NHL playoff series in which they trailed 1-game-nil, the San Jose Sharks have seen their Game 2 record presage their series record (four wins, seven losses in that span). With three unanswered goals in the first 6:02 of series 1364 Game 1, the Vegas Golden Knights tied for the eighth-fastest 3-goals-nil lead by a home team in best-of-7 NHL playoff game history: In series 52 Game 5, the Canadiens in Montreal likewise took a 3-goals-nil lead at the 6:02 mark of the first period, against the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 1945 NHL Semifinals series.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2017-18 NHL regular season, the Vegas Golden Knights finished nine points ahead of the San Jose Sharks. From 1939 through the 2018 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by nine regular-season points, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 15-17 (.469) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1364 is the second best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the Vegas Golden Knights, and the 38th for the San Jose Sharks. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, the Vegas Golden Knights have an all-rounds series record of 1-0, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 0-0, and a Game 1 record of 1-0, while the San Jose Sharks have an all-rounds series record of 18-19, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 4-8, and a Game 1 record of 20-17. Series 1364 is the first best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between the Vegas Golden Knights and the San Jose Sharks.
