St. Louis ousted Minnesota from the Spring 2017 playoffs with a series 1325 Game 5 goal at 9:42 into the first overtime period. In best-of-7 NHL playoff games since 1939, inclusive, only once before had a game ended at 9:42 into the first overtime period: In series 1231, the Chicago Blackhawks scored at 9:42 into the first overtime period to win 2014 NHL Quarterfinals Game 6 against the Wild in Minnesota, thereby ousting Minnesota from the Spring 2014 playoffs. In series 1325, the St. Louis Blues became only the seventh NHL team to score three or fewer goals on home ice in a best-of-7 NHL playoff series win.

After Game 4: The Minnesota Wild visited and shut out the St. Louis Blues 2-goals-nil to reduce the St. Louis Blues best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 1325 lead to 3-games-1. The Minnesota Wild are seeking to surmount a 3-games-1 deficit in a best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the first time since they accomplished the feat in back-to-back series in the 2003 Preliminary and Quarterfinals rounds. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series, teams such as the St. Louis Blues which win Games 1-3 but lose Game 4 by a shutout have a 6-2 Game 5 record and an 8-0 series record.
