SERIES NOTES:

After Game 5: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-pts-120 to complete a 4-games-1 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1349 victory. With the series 1349 win, the Golden State Warriors improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 18-11 with an active four-series winning streak befitting the new NBA champions overall and 3-1 in the Finals round. With the series 1349 loss, the Cleveland Cavaliers see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 20-10 overall and 1-3 in the Finals round. The win order for the victorious Golden State Warriors in series 1349 was WWWLW: Series 1349 thus becomes the second NBA Finals-round series, the 36th NBA series (all rounds), and the 90th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Only once before had a team followed a WWWLW win order to victory in a best-of-7 NBA Finals series: In series 64, the old Philadelphia Warriors (now in Oakland) did so in the 1947 NBA Finals. The 1182 combined points in series 1349 by Golden State and Cleveland set a record for most points by both teams in a best-of-7 NBA Finals series lasting five games, breaking the old record of 1171 points set in series 171 by the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1965 NBA Finals.

After Game 4: The Cleveland Cavaliers hosted and defeated the Golden State Warriors 137-pts-116 to reduce the Golden State Warriors best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 1349 lead to 3-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-1, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 5-1 and a Game 5 record of 3-3. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-1, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 1-1 and a Game 5 record of 2-0. Cleveland scored 49 points in the first quarter of series 1349 Game 4, thus breaking a best-of-7 NBA playoff game record (all rounds) for most first-quarter points by one team (45 points, set by the Dallas Mavericks in series 468 [in the 1986 NBA Quarterfinals] Game 4 at home against the Los Angeles Lakers, and tied twice since). Cleveland scored 86 points in the first half of Game 4, thus also breaking a best-of-7 NBA playoff game record (all rounds) for most first-half points by one team (83 points, set again by the Dallas Mavericks - this time in series 899 [in the 2003 NBA Quarterfinals] Game 2 at home against the Sacramento Kings).

After Game 3: The Golden State Warriors visited and topped the Cleveland Cavaliers 118-pts-113 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1349 lead of 3-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 6-0 and a Game 4 record of 5-1. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 0-2 and a Game 4 record of 0-2. The series 1349 Game 3 win by the Golden State Warriors marks their 15th consecutive best-of-7 NBA playoff game victory, which extends their one-season (four rounds of best-of-7) record for most wins from the start of a playoff season, and breaks the record for most consecutive best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff game victories across multiple seasons (set by the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins at 14, from series 610 [1992 NHL Quarterfinals] Game 4 through series 628 [1993 NHL Preliminary round] Game 3, inclusive). Golden State trailed by five points in Cleveland after the third quarter of series 1349 Game 3: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games since 1947, road teams down five points after three quarters had a game record of 21-75 (.219) prior to series 1349 Game 3.

After Game 2: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 132-pts-113 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1349 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 8-1 and a Game 3 record of 6-3. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 2-5 and a Game 3 record of 5-2. Series 1349 Game 2, at 245 total points, is the highest-scoring best-of-7 NBA Finals game since series 647 Game 3, in which the Phoenix Suns visited and defeated the Chicago Bulls 129-pts-121 in Game 3 of the 1993 NBA Finals. The 132 points scored by the Golden State Warriors in series 1349 Game 2 is the most by one team in a best-of-7 NBA Finals game since series 497 Game 2, in which the Los Angeles Lakers hosted and defeated the Boston Celtics 141-pts-122 in Game 2 of the 1987 NBA Finals. Leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil (as they now do against the Cleveland Cavaliers), the Golden State Warriors have an 8-1 series record, with the sole loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in series 1316, in the 2016 NBA Finals. In best-of-7 NBA Finals history, only four teams have lost Games 1-2 but won the NBA championship: in series 215, the Boston Celtics did so against the Los Angeles Lakers in 1969; in series 335, the Portland Trailblazers did so against the Philadelphia 76ers in 1977; in series 986, the Miami Heat accomplished the feat against the Dallas Mavericks in 2006; in series 1316, the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers did so against the Golden State Warriors in 2016.

After Game 1: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-pts-91 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1349 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 14-4 and a Game 2 record of 9-9 with an active six-Game 2 winning streak. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 4-8 and a Game 2 record of 5-7. Golden State thus extends its record winning streak from the beginning of a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff season to 13 consecutive games with the series 1349 Game 1 victory.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the Golden State Warriors finished 16 games ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers. From 1947 through the 2017 NBA Semifinals round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 16 regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 9-2 (.818) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1349 is the 29th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for the Golden State Warriors, and the 30th for the Cleveland Cavaliers. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Golden State Warriors have an all-rounds series record of 17-11, a Finals-round series record of 2-1, and a Game 1 record of 18-10 with an active four-Game 1 winning streak, while the Cleveland Cavaliers have an all-rounds series record of 20-9 with an active seven-series winning streak befitting a defending NBA champion, a Finals-round series record of 1-2, and a Game 1 record of 17-12. Series 1349 is the third best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In the previous two meetings between these two teams, Golden State won the 2015 NBA Finals, while Cleveland won the 2016 NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors at 67-15 finished 16 games ahead of the 51-31 Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016-17 NBA regular season. Only two teams (in 11 tries) finished 16 regular-season games behind their best-of-7 NBA playoff series opponent and won their series, with the latter occurrence in the 2016 NBA Finals when the Cleveland Cavaliers (57-25 in the 2015-16 NBA regular season) upset the 73-9 Golden State Warriors. A year later; different regular-season win totals; same regular-season win differential between same two teams in series 1349.
