Portland Trailblazers vs Golden State Warriors

Schedule and 2016-17 Results
Regular Season Records: Golden State 67-15, Portland 41-41
Game 1 on Sunday, 16 April: Portland loses at Golden State, 121-pts-109
Game 2 on Wednesday, 19 April: Portland loses at Golden State, 110-pts-81
Game 3 on Saturday, 22 April: Golden State wins at Portland, 119-pts-113
Game 4 on Monday, 24 April: Golden State wins at Portland, 128-pts-103

SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: The Golden State Warriors visited and defeated the Portland Trailblazers 128-pts-103 to complete a 4-games-nil best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1339 victory. With the series 1339 win, the Golden State Warriors improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 15-11 overall and 5-1 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1339 loss, the Portland Trailblazers see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 12-16 overall and 2-6 in the Preliminary round. The win order for the victorious Golden State Warriors in series 1339 was WWWW: Series 1339 thus becomes the 25th NBA Preliminary-round series, the 75th NBA series (all rounds), and the 219th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Golden State outscored Portland 45-pts-22 in the first quarter of series 1339 Game 4. The 45-point first quarter by Golden State ties a best-of-7 NBA playoff game record for most first-quarter points (set in series 468 by the Dallas Mavericks against the visiting Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of their 1986 NBA Quarterfinals series, and tied in series 1282 by the Houston Rockets against [ironically] the visiting Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of their 2015 NBA Semifinals series; just as Golden State outpointed Portland 45-pts-22 in the first quarter of series 1339 Game 4, so it was that Houston outpointed Golden State 45-pts-22 in the first quarter of series 1282 Game 4). The 45-point first quarter by Golden State breaks a best-of-7 NBA playoff game record for most first-quarter points on the road (43 points), set in series 185 by the Philadelphia 76ers on the road against (ironically) the old San Francisco Warriors in Game 6 of the 1967 NBA Finals.

After Game 3: The Golden State Warriors visited and defeated the Portland Trailblazers 119-pts-113 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1339 lead of 3-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 3-0 and a Game 4 record of 2-1. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Portland Trailblazers have a series record of 0-6 and a Game 4 record of 5-1. The Portland Trailblazers trailed series 1339 three-games-nil after three games, and thus become the 346th MLB/NBA/NHL team to fall behind 3-games-nil in a best-of-7 playoff series. While no NBA team has ever surmounted a three-games-nil best-of-7 playoff series deficit to achieve a 4-games-3 win, Portland (series 894, in the 2003 NBA Preliminary round) is one of only three NBA teams (Denver Nuggets, series 669 - in the 1994 NBA Quarterfinals; New York Knickerbockers, series 85 - the 1951 NBA Finals) to force a Game 7 upon having trailed 3-games-nil. Golden State trailed series 1339 Game 3 in Portland by seven points after one quarter, and by 13 points at halftime. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games beginning in 1947, road teams down seven points after one quarter had a game record of only 30-81 (.270), and road teams down 13 points at halftime had a game record of only 3-51 (.056).

After Game 2: The Golden State Warriors hosted and defeated the Portland Trailblazers 110-pts-81 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1339 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 5-1 and a Game 3 record of 3-3. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Portland Trailblazers have a series record of 2-8 and a Game 3 record of 4-6. The sole loss which Golden State sustained upon leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil was the Warriors' last series loss, to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals.

After Game 1: The Golden State Warriors hosted and bested the Portland Trailblazers 121-pts-109 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1339 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Golden State Warriors have a series record of 11-4 and a Game 2 record of 6-9. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Portland Trailblazers have a series record of 3-14 and a Game 2 record of 7-10 with an active five-Game 2 losing streak.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2016-17 NBA regular season, the Golden State Warriors finished 26 games ahead of the Portland Trailblazers. From 1947 through the 2016 NBA Finals round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 26 regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 1-0 (1.000) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1339 is the 26th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for the Golden State Warriors, and the 28th for the Portland Trailblazers. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Golden State Warriors have an all-rounds series record of 14-11, a Preliminary-round series record of 4-1, and a Game 1 record of 15-10, while the Portland Trailblazers have an all-rounds series record of 12-15, a Preliminary-round series record of 2-5, and a Game 1 record of 10-17 with an active four-Game 1 losing streak.
