SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: The Houston Astros hosted and shut out the New York Yankees 4-runs-nil to complete a 4-games-3 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 victory. With the series 1350 win, the Houston Astros improve their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the Semifinals round. With the series 1350 loss, the New York Yankees see their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record fall to 34-16 overall and 7-4 in the Semifinals round. The win order for the victorious Houston Astros in series 1350 was WWLLLWW: Series 1350 thus becomes the second MLB Semifinals-round series, the fifth MLB series (all rounds), and the 24th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Series 1350 is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff series (and only the second best-of-7 MLB Semifinals series overall) to follow a WWLLLWW @ HHVVVHH win/site order to completion since series 937, in which the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Houston Astros WWLLLWW @ HHVVVHH in the 2004 National League Championship Series. In series 1350, the Astros outscored the Yankees in Houston 15-runs-3, while the Yankees outscored the Astros in New York 19-runs-5. Series 1350 Game 7 is the fifteenth best-of-7 MLB playoff Game 7 to result in a shutout victory.

After Game 6: The Houston Astros hosted and bested the New York Yankees 7-runs-1 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 at 3-games-all. When tied 3-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Houston Astros have a Game 7 record of 0-1, while the New York Yankees have a Game 7 record of 6-7. The one previous Houston Astros Game 7 was a series 937 loss on the road to the St. Louis Cardinals, to conclude the 2004 National League Championship Series. Series 937 saw the home team win all seven games; series 1350 has seen the home team win all six games through Game 6. On the road for Game 7, the New York Yankees have a Game 7 record of 4-3; the last road Game 7 victory by the Yankees occurred in series 151, over the San Francisco Giants in the 1962 MLB Finals. In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series, teams such as the Houston Astros which return home for Game 6 trailing 3-games-2 and win Game 6 have won three of the last four Game 7s and 15 of the last 18 Game 7s (although the Royals in Kansas City lost the last such Game 7 in series 1253, to the San Francisco Giants in the 2014 MLB Finals).

After Game 5: The New York Yankees hosted and shut out the Houston Astros 5-runs-nil to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the New York Yankees have a series record of 15-3 and a Game 6 record of 11-7. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Houston Astros have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 6 record of 0-1.

After Game 4: The New York Yankees hosted and defeated the Houston Astros 6-runs-4 to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Houston Astros have a series record of 0-2 and a Game 5 record of 1-1, while the New York Yankees have a series record of 11-8 and a Game 5 record of 12-7. The Yankees trailed series 1350 Game 4 by four runs after 6.5 innings, but rallied to win: In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series from 1905 through 2016, inclusive, home teams down four runs after 6.5 innings had a game record of only 2-44 (.043).

After Game 3: The New York Yankees hosted and defeated the Houston Astros 8-runs-1 to reduce the Houston Astros best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 1350 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Houston Astros have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 4 record of 1-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the New York Yankees have a series record of 8-4 and a Game 4 record of 9-3. The New York Yankees led the Houston Astros by eight runs after the first four innings of series 1350 Game 3. The eight-run lead after four full innings was the largest in a best-of-7 MLB Semifinals game since series 1020 Game 6, in which the host Boston Red Sox led the Cleveland Indians 10-runs-1 after three innings in the 2007 American League Championship Series. Trailing a best-of-7 MLB playoff series 2-games-1 (as they now do in series 1350), the New York Yankees own an 8-4 (.667) series record - among MLB/NBA/NHL teams to trail a best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-1 after three games (minimum five such series), only the NHL Carolina Hurricanes own a better series record (4-1 (.800) upon trailing 2-games-1). Series 1350 becomes the 1000th best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series to feature a 2-games-1 lead by one of the teams after three games. With the series 1350 Game 3 win, the New York Yankees end a franchise-record seven-game losing streak in best-of-7 MLB playoff competition (spanning the 2010, 2012, and 2017 American League Championship Series). In best-of-7 MLB playoff series, home teams winning Games 1-2 by one run each (such as the Houston Astros in series 1350) now have a perfect 0-6 Game 3 record.

After Game 2: The Houston Astros hosted and defeated the New York Yankees 2-runs-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Houston Astros have a series record of 0-0 and a Game 3 record of 0-0. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the New York Yankees have a series record of 4-5 and a Game 3 record of 5-4. Houston thus takes a 2-games-nil lead in a best-of-7 MLB playoff series for the first time. The New York Yankees have now lost seven consecutive best-of-7 MLB playoff games - a franchise record, breaking the previous New York Yankees record of five consecutive best-of-7 MLB playoff game losses set on three separate occasions. In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series, home teams winning Games 1-2 by one run each (such as the Houston Astros in series 1350) have a perfect 5-0 series record, and a perfect 0-5 Game 3 record followed by a perfect 5-0 Game 4 record.

After Game 1: The Houston Astros hosted and topped the New York Yankees 2-runs-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1350 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Houston Astros have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 2 record of 0-1. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the New York Yankees have a series record of 11-8 and a Game 2 record of 10-9. Houston thus takes a 1-game-nil lead in a best-of-7 MLB playoff series for the first time since their first best-of-7 MLB playoff series (series 474, against the New York Mets in their 1986 MLB Semifinals series), and for only the second time in their history. In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series (all rounds), teams such as the Houston Astros which win Game 1 at home by one run have a 21-9 (.700) series record with an active five-series winning streak.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2017 MLB regular season, the Houston Astros finished ten games ahead of the New York Yankees. From 1905 through the 2016 MLB Finals round, when MLB teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by ten regular-season games, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 5-4 (.556) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1350 is the fifth best-of-7 MLB playoff series for the Houston Astros, and the 50th for the New York Yankees. In best-of-7 MLB playoff series, the Houston Astros have an all-rounds series record of 1-3, a Semifinals-round series record of 1-2, and a Game 1 record of 1-3, while the New York Yankees have an all-rounds series record of 34-15, a Semifinals-round series record of 7-3, and a Game 1 record of 30-19. Series 1350 is the first best-of-7 MLB playoff series meeting between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees. While the Houston Astros are playing in their fifth best-of-7 MLB playoff series, the New York Yankees have lost five consecutive best-of-7 MLB playoff games (beginning with series 1119 Game 6 [to the Texas Rangers in the 2010 MLB Semifinals] and extending through series 1185 [a four-game sweep by the Detroit Tigers in the 2012 MLB Semifinals]).
