SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The San Jose Sharks hosted and defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-goals-2 to complete a 4-games-2 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 victory. With the series 1300 win, the San Jose Sharks improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 17-17 overall and 1-3 in the Semifinals round. With the series 1300 loss, the St. Louis Blues see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 22-35 overall and 3-4 (with an active four-series losing streak) in the Semifinals round. The win order for the victorious San Jose Sharks in series 1300 was LWWLWW: Series 1300 thus becomes the sixth NHL Semifinals-round series, the 19th NHL series (all rounds), and the 32nd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Among existing MLB/NBA/NHL entities which had reached the Finals at least once before in their respective leagues, the longest Finals droughts are suffered by the MLB Chicago Cubs (1945), the NHL Toronto Maple Leafs (1967), and the NHL St. Louis Blues (1970).

After Game 5: The San Jose Sharks visited and defeated the St. Louis Blues 6-goals-3 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 8-3 and a Game 6 record of 3-8 (with an active three-Game 6 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 3-18 (with an active five-series losing streak) and a Game 6 record of 9-12 (with an active three-Game 6 losing streak). The last MLB/NBA/NHL team to post a win/site order of LWWLW @ VVHHV (as the San Jose Sharks have posted through the first five games of series 1300 of the St. Louis Blues) was the Blues, in series 1297 (in the 2016 NHL Quarterfinals) which they won against the Dallas Stars.

After Game 4: The St. Louis Blues visited and defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-goals-3 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 7-14 and a Game 5 record of 7-14, while the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 5-9 and a Game 5 record of 6-8. The 2-games-all tied best-of-7 NHL playoff series has historically not been kind to either the St. Louis Blues or the San Jose Sharks: The Blues once suffered a nine-series losing streak in the wake of a 2-games-all tie; the Sharks once suffered a seven-series losing streak in the wake of a 2-games-all tie.

After Game 3: The San Jose Sharks hosted and shut out the St. Louis Blues 3-goals-nil to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 lead of 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 9-4 (with an active three-series winning streak) and a Game 4 record of 7-6. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 5-16 (with a six-series losing streak) and a Game 4 record of 9-12. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series, teams such as the San Jose Sharks in series 1300 which lose Game 1 but win Games 2-3 by shutout have a 3-1 series record. The sole series loss occurred in the last such series (by the Pittsburgh Penguins in series 1230, to the New York Rangers in the 2014 NHL Quarterfinals); one of the three series wins was notched by the St. Louis Blues (in series 855, over the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2002 NHL Preliminary round).

After Game 2: The San Jose Sharks visited and shut out the St. Louis Blues 4-goals-nil to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 11-17 and a Game 3 record of 14-14, while the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 8-5 and a Game 3 record of 8-5. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series (all rounds), teams such as the San Jose Sharks in series 1300 which lose Game 1 on the road but win Game 2 on the road via a shutout of 4-goals-nil or greater have a 3-1 series record - in that situation, the sole series loss was sustained by the Los Angeles Kings, in series 1127 (in the 2011 NHL Preliminary round) . . . to the San Jose Sharks, in the year when the Sharks made their last advance into the 2011 NHL Semifinals prior to this year. So it is that the 2011 San Jose Sharks offer a favorable precedent for the 2016 St. Louis Blues (against the 2016 Sharks).

After Game 1: The St. Louis Blues hosted and bested the San Jose Sharks 2-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1300 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 17-11 and a Game 2 record of 12-16. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Jose Sharks have a series record of 4-11 (with an active three-series losing streak) and a Game 2 record of 5-10 (with an active three-Game 2 losing streak). In the last nine best-of-7 NHL playoff series in which San Jose lost Game 1, their series outcome mirrored their Game 2 outcome (three wins, six losses).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2015-16 NHL regular season, the St. Louis Blues finished nine points ahead of the San Jose Sharks. From 1939 through the 2016 NHL Quarterfinals round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by nine regular-season points, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 15-16 (.484) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1300 is the 57th best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the St. Louis Blues, and the 34th for the San Jose Sharks. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, the St. Louis Blues have an all-rounds series record of 22-34, a Semifinals-round series record of 3-3 (with an active three-series losing streak), and a Game 1 record of 28-28, while the San Jose Sharks have an all-rounds series record of 16-17, a Semifinals-round series record of 0-3, and a Game 1 record of 18-15 (with an active three-Game 1 winning streak). Series 1300 is the fifth best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between the St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks. St. Louis and San Jose split their previous four best-of-7 NHL playoff series against each other, with the Sharks winning in the 2000 and 2004 Preliminary rounds, and the Blues prevailing in the 2001 and 2012 Preliminary rounds.
