SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: The St. Louis Blues visited and topped the Dallas Stars 6-goals-1 to complete a 4-games-3 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 victory. With the series 1297 win, the St. Louis Blues improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 22-34 overall and 7-16 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1297 loss, the Dallas Stars see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 15-13 overall and 4-4 in the Quarterfinals round. The win order for the victorious St. Louis Blues in series 1297 was LWWLWLW: Series 1297 thus becomes the third NHL Quarterfinals-round series, the 12th NHL series (all rounds), and the 28th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. With the series 1297 victory, the St. Louis Blues stay tied with the NBA Atlanta Hawks for most best-of-7 NBA/NHL Quarterfinals series losses (16 each). The 25 goals by the St. Louis Blues in series 1297 are the most by one team in a best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals series since series 1065, in which the Pittsburgh Penguins tallied 27 goals against the Washington Capitals in the 2009 NHL Quarterfinals. The LWWLWLW win order by the St. Louis Blues in series 1297 is the same as that posted by the Calgary Flames against the St. Louis Blues in series 464, in the 1986 NHL Quarterfinals; Game 6 of that 1986 NHL Quarterfinals series, won by the Blues, is known as the "Monday Night Miracle" in St. Louis and occurred one day shy of exactly thirty years ago (on 12 May 1986) from the St. Louis series 1297 victory. The five-goal St. Louis Game 7 victory on the road ties those of the Minnesota North Stars in series 190 (over the Los Angeles Kings in the 1968 NHL Quarterfinals), the Detroit Red Wings in series 1096 (over the old Phoenix Coyotes in the 2010 NHL Preliminary round), and the New York Rangers in series 1190 (over the Washington Capitals in the 2013 NHL Preliminary round) for the most one-sided Game 7 victories by road teams in best-of-7 NHL playoff series history. St. Louis reaches the NHL Semifinals for the first time since 2001, and for the second time since 1986.

After Game 6: The Dallas Stars visited and bested the St. Louis Blues 3-goals-2 to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 at 3-games-all. When tied 3-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Dallas Stars have a Game 7 record of 2-2, while the St. Louis Blues have a Game 7 record of 7-8. The Dallas Stars have a home ice Game 7 record of 2-1. The St. Louis Blues have a road ice Game 7 record of 3-6. With a series 1297 Game 7 loss, the St. Louis Blues will have lost their 17th best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals series, and those 17 losses would be an NBA/NHL-most (just ahead of the NBA Atlanta Hawks, which just lost their 16th best-of-7 NBA Quarterfinals series [series 1310 on Sunday 08 May] to the Cleveland Cavaliers).

After Game 5: The St. Louis Blues visited and bested the Dallas Stars 4-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 8-2 and a Game 6 record of 4-6. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 1-7 (with an active five-series losing streak) and a Game 6 record of 3-5. The sole Dallas Stars best-of-7 NHL playoff series victory in the wake of a 3-games-2 deficit occurred in series 786, over the Colorado Avalanche in the 1999 NHL Semifinals en route to the 1999 NHL championship.

After Game 4: The Dallas Stars visited and outscored the St. Louis Blues 3-goals-2 in overtime to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 7-2 (with the two losses sandwiching the seven wins) and a Game 5 record of 6-3, while the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 6-14 (with an active three-series losing streak) and a Game 5 record of 6-14 (with an active three-Game 5 losing streak).

After Game 3: The St. Louis Blues hosted and defeated the Dallas Stars 6-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 lead of 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 9-9 and a Game 4 record of 7-11. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 2-8 (with an active four-series losing streak) and a Game 4 record of 4-6. The five-goal margin of victory by the St. Louis Blues is the largest best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals Game 3 victory margin since series 858, in which the St. Louis Blues themselves defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-goals-1 in Game 3 of their 2002 NHL Quarterfinals series.

After Game 2: The St. Louis Blues visited and defeated the Dallas Stars 4-goals-3 in overtime to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 6-4 and a Game 3 record of 4-6, while the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 10-17 and a Game 3 record of 13-14. The series 1297 Game 2 victory by St. Louis broke a three-Game 2 winning streak by the Dallas Stars when leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil.

After Game 1: The Dallas Stars hosted and topped the St. Louis Blues 2-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1297 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 11-1 (with an active ten-series winning streak) and a Game 2 record of 9-3 (with an active three-Game 2 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 4-23 and a Game 2 record of 11-16.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2015-16 NHL regular season, the Dallas Stars finished two points ahead of the St. Louis Blues. From 1939 through the 2016 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by two regular-season points, they have posted a best-of-7 playoff series record of 17-16 (.515) in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1297 is the 28th best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the Dallas Stars, and the 56th for the St. Louis Blues. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, the Dallas Stars have an all-rounds series record of 15-12, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 4-3, and a Game 1 record of 12-15, while the St. Louis Blues have an all-rounds series record of 21-34, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 6-16, and a Game 1 record of 28-27. Series 1297 is the fourth best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues. Dallas won two of the three previous best-of-7 NHL playoff series with St. Louis; however, St. Louis won the last such meeting (series 834, in the 2001 NHL Quarterfinals). The 16 best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals-round losses by the St. Louis Blues are an NBA/NHL-high.
