With the series 1318 win, the Chicago Cubs improve their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record to 3-11 overall and 1-3 in the Semifinals round. With the series 1318 loss, the Los Angeles Dodgers see their best-of-7 MLB playoff series record fall to 6-9 (with an active four-series losing streak) overall and 1-5 (with an active four-series losing streak) in the Semifinals round. The win order for the victorious Chicago Cubs in series 1318 was WLLWWW: Series 1318 thus becomes the third MLB Semifinals-round series, the fifth MLB series (all rounds), and the 35th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. The series 1318 victory by the Chicago Cubs ends their best-of-7 MLB playoff series losing streak, starting with series 6 in the 1910 MLB Finals, at ten. The longest best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series losing streak is owned by the NBA Atlanta Hawks at fourteen (starting with series 229 in the 1970 NBA Semifinals and ending with series 1074 in the 2009 NBA Preliminary round).

The five-run bottom of the eighth inning by the Chicago Cubs in series 1318 Game 1 is the highest-scoring bottom of the eighth in a best-of-7 MLB playoff game since series 1121 Game 2, in which the San Francisco Giants hosted and notched seven bottom-of-the-eighth runs in a 9-runs-nil shutout of the Texas Rangers in the 2010 MLB Finals. The first best-of-7 MLB playoff game in which the home team tallied five or more runs in the bottom of the eighth: series 4 Game 2, in which the Chicago Cubs hosted and scored six bottom-of-the-eighth runs against the Detroit Tigers in the 1908 MLB Finals en route to a 6-runs-1 Game 2 win and a 4-games-1 series victory for the 1908 MLB championship.

In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff series, the only other team to finish 12.5 games ahead of its opponent (such as the Chicago Cubs in the 2016 MLB Semifinals) was the 108-54 New York Mets against the 95-66 Boston Red Sox in series 475 (the 1986 MLB Finals): The Mets won that series, but not before coming within a strike of series defeat within Game 6 of it.
