SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: The Los Angeles Kings visited and defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-goals-2 to complete a 4-games-3 best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 victory. With the series 1232 win, the Los Angeles Kings improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 16-20 overall and 5-9 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1232 loss, the Anaheim Ducks see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Quarterfinals round. The win order for the victorious Los Angeles Kings in series 1232 was WWLLLWW: Series 1232 thus becomes the fourth NHL Quarterfinals-round series, the eighth NHL series (all rounds), and the 21st MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. With the series 1232 win, the Los Angeles Kings become the first NHL team to win back-to-back best-of-7 NHL series within the same playoff season while losing three consecutive games in each of those two victorious series. The total of four home-ice goals by the Los Angeles Kings in series 1232 tie the NHL record for fewest home-ice goals by a winning team in a best-of-7 NHL playoff series lasting the full seven games, set in series 54 by the Toronto Maple Leafs (against the Detroit Red Wings in the 1945 NHL Finals) and tied in series 77 by the Detroit Red Wings (against, ironically, the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1950 NHL Semifinals) and in series 879 by the Minnesota Wild (against the Colorado Avalanche in the 2003 NHL Preliminary round). Series 1232 Game 7 becomes the third NHL Game 7 in which the road team tallied the first five goals (the other two: series 1065 Game 7 [Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals, 2009 NHL Quarterfinals]; series 1190 Game 7 [New York Rangers at Washington Capitals, 2013 NHL Preliminary round]).

After Game 6: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and bested the Anaheim Ducks 2-goals-1 to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 at 3-games-all. When tied 3-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Anaheim Ducks have a Game 7 record of 0-2 (0-1 on home ice), while the Los Angeles Kings have a Game 7 record of 5-4 (3-3 on road ice). The predecessor to the Anaheim Ducks (the Anaheim "Mighty" Ducks) had a 2-1 Game 7 record irrespective of site and a 1-0 Game 7 record on home ice.

After Game 5: The Anaheim Ducks hosted and bested the Los Angeles Kings 4-goals-3 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 lead of 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Anaheim Ducks have a series record of 3-1 and a Game 6 record of 3-1. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 4-8 and a Game 6 record of 7-5. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the old Anaheim "Mighty" Ducks had a 1-0 series record and a 1-0 Game 6 record. In each of the four previous series led 3-games-2 by the Anaheim Ducks, a Game 6 win led to a series win (by definition) and a Game 6 loss led to a series loss.

After Game 4: The Anaheim Ducks visited and shut out the Los Angeles Kings 2-goals-nil to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series, the Anaheim Ducks have a series record of 2-3 and a Game 5 record of 3-2, while the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 8-4 and a Game 5 record of 7-5. The old Anaheim “Mighty” Ducks had a series record of 2-1 and a perfect Game 5 record of 0-3 when tied 2-games-all. Series 1232 has become the 22nd best-of-7 NHL playoff series in which the road team won the first four games; the last such series in any round was series 1124, between the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins in the 2011 Preliminary round; the last such Quarterfinals series was series 832, between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres in 2001.

After Game 3: The Anaheim Ducks visited and bested the Los Angeles Kings 3-goals-2 to reduce the Los Angeles Kings best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 1232 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 4-3 and a Game 4 record of 1-6 (with an active four-Game 4 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Anaheim Ducks have a series record of 1-2 and a Game 4 record of 2-1, while the old Anaheim “Mighty” Ducks had a series record of 1-1 and a Game 4 record of 2-0 when down 2-games-1. Series 1232 thus becomes the first best-of-7 NHL playoff series (in any round) in which the road team won the first three games since series 1124, between the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins in the 2011 Preliminary round. Series 1232 becomes the first best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals-round series in which the road team won the first three games since series 883, between the Anaheim “Mighty” Ducks and Dallas Stars in 2003.

After Game 2: The Los Angeles Kings visited and defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-goals-1 to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 lead of 2-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 5-1 (with an active five-series winning streak) and a Game 3 record of 4-2. When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Anaheim Ducks have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 3 record of 1-0.

After Game 1: The Los Angeles Kings visited and bested the Anaheim Ducks 3-goals-2 in overtime to take a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1232 lead of 1-game-nil. When leading a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 8-5 (with an active five-series winning streak) and a Game 2 record of 6-7 (with an active five-Game 2 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Anaheim Ducks have a series record of 1-3 and a Game 2 record of 3-1. Los Angeles trailed in Anaheim by one goal as late as 19:52 into the third period. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2013, inclusive, road teams down a goal as late as 19:52 into the third period had a game record of only 1-454 (.002).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2013-14 NHL regular season, the Anaheim Ducks finished 16 points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings. From 1939 through the 2014 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 16 regular-season points, they have posted an 11-2 (.846) best-of-7 playoff series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1232 is the eleventh best-of-7 NHL playoff series for the Anaheim Ducks, and the 36th for the Los Angeles Kings. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, the Anaheim Ducks have an all-rounds series record of 6-4, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 1-1, and a Game 1 record of 6-4, while the Los Angeles Kings have an all-rounds series record of 15-20, a Quarterfinals-round series record of 4-9, and a Game 1 record of 13-22. Series 1232 is the first best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings.
