SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-goals-1 to achieve a 4-games-3 win of MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199. With the series 1199 win, the Los Angeles Kings improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 14-19 overall (with an active six-series winning streak) and 4-9 in the Quarterfinals. With the series 1199 loss, the best-of-7 NHL playoff series record of the San Jose Sharks falls to 14-16 overall and 3-8 in the Quarterfinals. The win order for the victorious Los Angeles Kings in series 1199 was WWLLWLW: Series 1199 thus becomes the second NHL Quarterfinals series, the ninth NHL series (all rounds), and the 28th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Series 1199 is the ninth best-of-7 NHL playoff series in which the home team won all seven games, and the first since series 887 (in which the New Jersey Devils defeated the old Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the 2003 NHL Finals).

After Game 6: The San Jose Sharks hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-goals-1 to tie MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199 at 3-games-all. The Los Angeles Kings have a Game 7 record of 3-4 overall and 1-1 at home, while the San Jose Sharks have a Game 7 record of 5-2 overall and 3-2 on the road. All else equal, home teams in Game 7 of best-of-7 NHL playoff series have an 88-59 (.599) record.

After Game 5: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and defeated the San Jose Sharks 3-goals-nil to take a 3-games-2 lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the Los Angeles Kings have a 7-1 series record (with an active seven-series winning streak) and a 7-1 Game 6 record (with an active seven-Game 6 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-2, the San Jose Sharks have a 1-8 series record (with an active eight-series losing streak) and a 1-8 Game 6 record (with an active eight-Game 6 losing streak). In other words, when the Los Angeles Kings lead a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-2, they win the series when they win Game 6 (by definition) and lose Game 7 and the series when they lose Game 6 (one occasion); when the San Jose Sharks trail a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-2, they lose the series when they lose Game 6 (by definition) and win Game 7 and the series when they win Game 6 (one occasion).

After Game 4: The San Jose Sharks hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-goals-1 to tie MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199 at 2-games-all. When tied in a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-all, the Los Angeles Kings have a 7-4 series record and a 6-5 Game 5 record, while the San Jose Sharks have a 4-8 series record and a 5-7 Game 5 record. Upon losing the first two games of a best-of-7 NHL playoff series and then winning Games 3-4 irrespective of site, the San Jose Sharks have a 0-3 Game 5 record, a 0-3 Game 6 record, and thus a 0-3 series record.

After Game 3: The San Jose Sharks hosted and defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-goals-1 in the first overtime period to reduce the Los Angeles lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199 to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Los Angeles Kings have a 3-3 series record and a 1-5 Game 4 record (with an active three-Game 4 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the San Jose Sharks have a 3-8 series record and a 7-4 Game 4 record.

After Game 2: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-goals-3 to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a 4-1 series record (with an active four-series winning streak) and a 4-1 Game 3 record (with an active four-Game 3 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the San Jose Sharks have a 0-9 series record and a 6-3 Game 3 record. Los Angeles scored twice in the 59th minute of regulation to tie and win series 1199 Game 2, with the tying goal 18:17 into the third period. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2012, inclusive, home teams down a goal as late as 18:16 into the third period had a game record of 29-438 (.062).

After Game 1: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and shut out the San Jose Sharks 2-goals-nil to take a 1-game-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a 7-5 series record (with an active four-series winning streak) and a 5-7 Game 2 record (with an active four-Game 2 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Jose Sharks have a 4-10 series record and a 5-9 Game 2 record. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series, home teams such as Los Angeles which win Game 1 by a 2-goals-nil score have a 9-2 (.818) series record with an active six-series winning streak.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2012-13 NHL regular season, Los Angeles finished two points ahead of San Jose. From 1939 through the 2013 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by two regular-season points, they have posted a 14-14 (.500) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1199 is the 30th best-of-7 playoff series for San Jose, and the 33rd for Los Angeles. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, San Jose has a 14-15 series record, a 3-7 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 15-14 Game 1 record, while Los Angeles has a 13-19 series record (with the active five-series winning streak befitting a defending NHL champion), a 3-9 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 12-20 Game 1 record. Series 1199 is the second best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between San Jose and Los Angeles; San Jose won their 2011 NHL Preliminary-round match-up.
