SERIES NOTES:

After Game 5: The Miami Heat hosted and defeated the Chicago Bulls 94-pts-91 to achieve a 4-games-1 win in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211. With the series 1211 win, the Miami Heat improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 17-8 overall (with an active six-series winning streak characteristic of a defending champion) and 6-2 in the Quarterfinals (with an active five-series winning streak). With the series 1211 loss, the Chicago Bulls see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 26-21 overall and 11-11 in the Quarterfinals. The win order for the victorious Miami Heat in series 1211 was LWWWW: Series 1211 thus becomes the fifth NBA Quarterfinals series, the 18th NBA series (all rounds), and the 55th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion. The Miami Heat was also the last MLB/NBA/NHL team to win a best-of-7 playoff series LWWWW, having done so in series 1184 – the 2012 NBA Finals. Series 1211 is the fourth LWWWW best-of-7 series win by the Miami Heat, tying the Los Angeles Lakers for the most LWWWW best-of-7 NBA playoff series wins, and only one behind the NHL Montreal Canadiens for the most such best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series wins. Miami trailed series 1211 Game 5 by eight points after three quarters, but won the game: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games, home teams down by eight after three quarters had a game record of 9-39 (.188).

After Game 4: The Miami Heat visited and defeated the Chicago Bulls 88-pts-65 to take a 3-games-1 lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the Miami Heat have a 7-0 series record and a 6-1 Game 5 record with an active five-Game 5 winning streak. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the Chicago Bulls have a 0-7 series record and a 2-5 Game 5 record.

After Game 3: The Miami Heat visited and defeated the Chicago Bulls 104-pts-94 to take a 2-games-1 lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Miami Heat have an 8-4 series record and a 5-7 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Chicago Bulls have a 1-12 series record with an active seven-series losing streak, and an 8-5 Game 4 record.

After Game 2: The Miami Heat hosted and defeated the Chicago Bulls 115-pts-78 to tie MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Miami Heat have a 6-4 series record and an 8-2 Game 3 record, while the Chicago Bulls have a 12-7 series record and a 14-5 Game 3 record. The 37-point margin of victory by the Miami Heat in series 1211 Game 2 is the largest ever in a Game 2 of a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, breaking the old record of a 35-point margin of victory as set in series 163 Game 2 by the Warriors in San Francisco (as they hosted and defeated the St. Louis Hawks 120-pts-85 in their 1964 NBA Semifinals series).

After Game 1: The Chicago Bulls visited and defeated the Miami Heat 93-pts-86 to take a 1-game-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Chicago Bulls have a 19-5 series record and a 14-10 Game 2 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Miami Heat have a 5-6 series record and a 6-5 Game 2 record. The visiting Chicago Bulls trailed series 1211 Game 1 by four points after three quarters, but prevailed: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games beginning in 1947, road teams down four points after three quarters had a game record of 25-80 (.238).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2012-13 NBA regular season, Miami finished 21 games ahead of Chicago. From 1947 through the 2013 NBA Preliminary round, inclusive, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 21 regular-season games, they have posted a 5-0 (1.000) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1211 is the 47th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Chicago, and the 25th for Miami. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Chicago has a 26-20 series record, an 11-10 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 24-22 Game 1 record, while Miami has a 16-8 series record (with an active five-series winning streak), a 5-2 Quarterfinals-round record (with an active four-series winning streak), and a 13-11 Game 1 record.
