SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: The Los Angeles Kings hosted and defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-goals-1 for a 4-games-nil sweep of MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1165. With the series 1165 win, the Los Angeles Kings improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 10-19 overall and 3-9 in the NHL Quarterfinals round. With the series 1165 loss, the St. Louis Blues see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 20-31 overall and 6-16 in the NHL Quarterfinals. Series 1165 thus becomes the 39th NHL Quarterfinals series, the 108th NHL series (all rounds), and the 193rd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to end in a 4-games-nil sweep. Los Angeles swept a team it trailed by 14 regular-season points ... the biggest NHL regular-season point deficit the sweepers spotted to the swept since series 878, in which the Anaheim Mighty Ducks swept the 2002 NHL champion Detroit Red Wings (whom Anaheim trailed by 15 regular-season points) 4-games-nil in the 2003 NHL Preliminary round. The 16 best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals series losses and the 75 best-of-7 NHL Quarterfinals game losses by the St. Louis Blues are the most in best-of-7 NBA/NHL Quarterfinals history.

After Game 3: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1165 in California for Games 3-4, the Los Angeles Kings hosted and defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-goals-2 to take a 3-games-nil series 1165 lead. The St. Louis Blues thus become the 302nd MLB/NBA/NHL team to attempt to win a best-of-7 playoff series after having fallen behind 3-games-nil. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 4 record of 0-1. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-nil, the St. Louis Blues have a series record of 0-8 and a Game 4 record of 1-7 with an active three-Game 4 losing streak.

After Game 2: Seizing a 4-goals-nil lead in the first period, the Los Angeles Kings visited and defeated the St. Louis Blues 5-goals-2 to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1165. Thus did the 2012 Los Angeles Kings become the tenth-fastest road team to a four-goals-nil lead in a best-of-7 NHL playoff game, and the fastest since the Ottawa Senators took a four-goals-nil lead in 16:39 in New Jersey against the Devils in series 999 Game 1 (in the 2007 NHL Quarterfinals). When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a 1-1 series record and a 1-1 Game 3 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the St. Louis Blues have a 1-14 series record and a 7-8 Game 3 record; the sole series victory occurred in series 250, in which St. Louis defeated the old Minnesota North Stars in the 1972 NHL Quarterfinals.

After Game 1: The Los Angeles Kings visited and defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-goals-1 to take a 1-game-nil MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1165 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Los Angeles Kings have a 4-5 series record and a 2-7 Game 2 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the St. Louis Blues have a 4-21 series record and a 10-15 Game 2 record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2011-12 NHL regular season, St. Louis finished 14 points ahead of Los Angeles. From 1939 through the 2012 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 14 regular-season points, they have posted a 12-8 (.600) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1165 is the 29th best-of-7 playoff series for Los Angeles, and the 51st for St. Louis. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, Los Angeles has a 9-19 series record, a 2-9 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 9-19 Game 1 record, while St. Louis has a 20-30 series record, a 6-15 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 25-25 Game 1 record. Series 1165 is the third best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between Los Angeles and St. Louis; St. Louis swept both series 207 (in the 1969 NHL Quarterfinals) and series 755 (in the 1998 NHL Preliminary round) against Los Angeles.
