SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: Surmounting a seven-point deficit at halftime, the Heat in Miami rallied to defeat the Boston Celtics 101-pts-88 for a 4-games-3 victory in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182. Miami thus advances to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in series 1184. With the series 1182 victory, the Miami Heat improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 14-8 overall and 3-2 in the Semifinals. With the series 1182 loss, the Boston Celtics see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 62-22 overall and 20-9 in the Semifinals. The win order for the victorious Miami Heat in series 1182 was WWLLLWW: Series 1182 thus becomes the third NBA Semifinals series, the ninth NBA series (all rounds), and the 20th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games prior to series 1182 Game 7, home teams trailing by seven points at halftime (such as Miami in Game 7) had a game record of 15-41 (.268).

After Game 6: The Miami Heat visited and defeated the Boston Celtics 98-pts-79 to tie MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182 at 3-games-all. Game 7 is Saturday night. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Miami Heat have a 2-3 Game 7 record, while the Boston Celtics have a 21-7 Game 7 record (with the most recent Game 7 victory occurring in the immediately preceding round, in series 1179 over the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2012 NBA Quarterfinals). All else equal, NBA home teams in best-of-7 playoff Game 7s have an 88-22 (.800) record.

After Game 5: Trailing by eight points after the first quarter, the Boston Celtics rallied to defeat the Heat in Miami 94-pts-90 to take a 3-games-2 lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Boston Celtics have a 36-2 series record and a 20-18 Game 6 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Miami Heat have a 1-3 series record and a 2-2 Game 6 record (the sole series victory came at the expense of the New York Knickerbockers in series 739, in the 1997 NBA Quarterfinals; series 739 was the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series in which the Miami Heat trailed 3-games-2 after five games). In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games, road teams (such as the Boston Celtics in series 1182 Game 5) which trailed by eight points after the first quarter had a game record of 12-71 (.145).

After Game 4: Leading by 14 points at halftime, the Celtics in overtime defeated the Miami Heat 93-pts-91 in Boston to tie MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Miami Heat have a 4-5 series record and a 6-3 Game 5 record, while the Boston Celtics have a 29-10 series record and a 28-11 Game 5 record with an active eight-Game 5 winning streak (the 29 Boston series wins in this situation are an MLB/NBA/NHL-high). Among MLB/NBA/NHL teams tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 playoff series, the NBA Orlando Magic have the best series record at 4-0 (1.000), while the old NHL Hartford Whalers have the worst at 0-5 (.000). With the Boston win in series 1182 Game 4, both 2012 NBA Semifinals series show a win/site order of WWLL @ HHVV through the first four games: Only once before (in 1990) have the home teams been undefeated through the first four games of both NBA Semifinals series with Games 1-2 at one site and Games 3-4 at the other.

After Game 3: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182 in Massachusetts for Games 3 and 4, the Boston Celtics hosted and defeated the Miami Heat 101-pts-91 to reduce the Miami series 1182 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Miami Heat have a 6-4 series record and a 4-6 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Boston Celtics have a 9-14 series record and a 14-9 Game 4 record.

After Game 2: The Miami Heat hosted and defeated the Boston Celtics 115-pts-111 in the first overtime period to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Miami Heat have a 7-0 series record and a 4-3 Game 3 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Boston Celtics have a 1-8 series record (with an active seven-series losing streak) and a 5-4 Game 3 record. The sole Boston series win in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series upon having trailed 2-games-nil occurred in series 215, when the Celtics rallied to best the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1969 NBA Finals. For the first NBA playoff season since 2007, and for only the second time in the 2000s, the home team has won Games 1 and 2 in both NBA Semifinals series.

After Game 1: The Miami Heat hosted and defeated the Boston Celtics 93-pts-79 to take a 1-game-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Miami Heat have a 9-2 series record and a 7-4 Game 2 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Boston Celtics have a 10-16 series record and a 17-9 Game 2 record. For the second consecutive NBA playoff season, but for only the fifth time since 2000 (inclusive), the home team has won Game 1 in both NBA Semifinals series.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2011-12 NBA regular season, the Miami Heat finished seven games ahead of the Boston Celtics. From 1947 through the 2012 NBA Quarterfinals round, inclusive, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by seven regular-season games, they have posted a 24-4 (.857) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1182 is the 84th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Boston, and the 22nd for Miami. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Boston has a 62-21 series record, a 20-8 Semifinals-round series record, and a 57-26 Game 1 record, while Miami has a 13-8 series record, a 2-2 Semifinals-round record, and an 11-10 Game 1 record. Series 1182 is the third best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat: Boston won the first meeting (series 1107, in the 2010 NBA Preliminary round); Miami, the last (series 1146, in the 2011 NBA Quarterfinals).
