SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The Philadelphia 76ers hosted and defeated the Chicago Bulls 79-pts-78 to post a 4-games-2 win in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170. With the series 1170 win, the Philadelphia 76ers win their first best-of-7 NBA playoff series since series 891 (in the 2003 NBA Preliminary round), break a five-series losing streak, and improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 19-24 overall and 2-4 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1170 loss, the Chicago Bulls see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 25-20 overall and 2-5 in the Preliminary round. In terms of regular-season games difference (Chicago finished 15 games ahead of Philadelphia in the 2011-12 NBA regular season), the Philadelphia series 1170 win constitutes the biggest upset series victory since series 1141, in which the Memphis Grizzlies trailed the San Antonio Spurs by fifteen 2010-11 NBA regular season games but won their 2011 NBA Preliminary-round series. Also in terms of regular-season games difference, series 1170 is tied for the fifth-largest upset best-of-7 series victory in NBA playoff history (the largest was series 1009, in which the Golden State Warriors trailed the Dallas Mavericks by twenty-five 2006-07 NBA regular-season games but defeated Dallas in their 2007 NBA Preliminary-round playoff series). The win order for the victorious Philadelphia 76ers in series 1170 was LWWWLW: Series 1170 thus becomes the third NBA Preliminary-round series, the 11th NBA series (all rounds), and the 44th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion.

After Game 5: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170 back in Illinois, the Chicago Bulls hosted and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 77-pts-69 to narrow the 76ers’ series 1170 lead to 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Philadelphia 76ers have a 10-2 series record (with an active five-series winning streak) and a 5-7 Game 6 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Chicago Bulls have a 0-10 series record and a 5-5 Game 6 record.

After Game 4: The Philadelphia 76ers hosted and defeated the Chicago Bulls 89-pts-82 to take a 3-games-1 lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the Philadelphia 76ers have a 9-2 series record (with an active 4-series winning streak) and a 4-7 Game 5 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the Chicago Bulls have a 0-6 series record and a 1-5 Game 5 record.

After Game 3: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170 in Pennsylvania for Games 3-4, the Philadelphia 76ers hosted and defeated the Chicago Bulls 79-pts-74 to take a 2-games-1 series 1170 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Philadelphia 76ers have a 10-6 series record and a 9-7 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Chicago Bulls have a 1-11 series record (with an active six-series losing streak) and an 8-4 Game 4 record.

After Game 2: The Philadelphia 76ers visited and defeated the Chicago Bulls 109-pts-92 to even MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Chicago Bulls have a 11-6 series record and a 13-4 Game 3 record, while the Philadelphia 76ers have a 7-12 series record and a 10-9 Game 3 record. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through 2011, inclusive, teams such as Chicago which win Game 1 at home by double digits but lose Game 2 at home by double digits have a 9-3 (.750) series record; ironically, the last home team in this situation to lose the series was ... the Chicago Bulls, in series 1149 against the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Semifinals.

After Game 1: The Chicago Bulls hosted and defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 103-pts-91 for a 1-game-nil MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Chicago Bulls have a 19-4 series record and a 14-9 Game 2 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Philadelphia 76ers have a 3-17 series record and a 9-11 Game 2 record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2011-12 NBA regular season, Chicago finished 15 games ahead of Philadelphia. From 1947 through the 2011 NBA Finals round, inclusive, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 15 regular-season games, they have posted a 6-2 (.750) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1170 is the 43rd best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Philadelphia, and the 45th for Chicago. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Philadelphia has an 18-24 series record with an active five-series losing streak, a 1-4 Preliminary-round series record with an active four-series losing streak, and a 22-20 Game 1 record, while Chicago has a 25-19 series record, a 2-4 Preliminary-round record, and a 23-21 Game 1 record. Series 1170 is the third best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Philadelphia and Chicago: Chicago won series 566 (1990 NBA Quarterfinals) and 591 (1991 NBA Quarterfinals) for a 2-0 lead.
