SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Boston Bruins swept the Philadelphia Flyers 4-gams-nil in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1131; Boston advances to meet the Tampa Bay Lightning in series 1134 (the 2011 NHL Semifinals or NHL Eastern Conference Finals). With the series 1131 win, the Boston Bruins improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 42-45 overall and 14-10 in the NHL Quarterfinals. With the series 1131 loss, the Philadelphia Flyers see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 37-29 overall and 16-8 in the NHL Quarterfinals. The win order for the victorious Boston Bruins in series 1131 was WWWW: Series 1131 thus becomes the 38th NHL Quarterfinals series, the 107th NHL series (all rounds), and the 190th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Boston outscored Philadelphia 20-goals-7 in series 1131: The resulting goal differential of 13 is the largest in a sweep of a best-of-7 NHL playoff series since series 959, in which the New Jersey Devils swept and outscored the New York Rangers 17-goals-4 to win their 2006 NHL Preliminary-round series. In a manner of speaking, series 1131 thus avenges series 1098, in which Boston also took a 3-games-nil lead over Philadelphia in the 2010 NHL Quarterfinals, but then suffered four consecutive defeats to the Flyers to lose the series 4-games-3 in only the fourth MLB/NBA/NHL comeback from a 3-games-nil deficit for a 4-games-3 victory in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series history.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2010-11 regular season, Philadelphia finished three points ahead of Boston. From 1939 through the 2011 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by three regular-season points, they have posted an 11-18 (.379) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents, with an active seven-series losing streak. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1131 is the 87th best-of-7 playoff series for Boston, and the 66th for Philadelphia. In best-of-7 NHL playoff series, Boston has a 41-45 series record, a 13-10 Quarterfinals series record with an active four-series losing streak, and a 43-43 Game 1 record, while Philadelphia has a 37-28 series record, a 16-7 Quarterfinals series record, and a 30-35 Game 1 record. Series 1131 is the sixth best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between Boston and Philadelphia; Philadelpha has won three of the five previous meetings, including series 1098 last year (a 2010 NHL Quarterfinals series in which Philadelphia fell 3-games-nil behind Boston but became only the fourth MLB/NBA/NHL team to rally from that three-game deficit for a 4-games-3 series victory).
