SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Dallas Mavericks swept the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers from the 2011 NBA playoffs four-games-nil in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1148. With the series 1148 victory, the Dallas Mavericks improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the Quarterfinals round. With the series 1148 loss, the Los Angeles Lakers see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 67-29 overall and 25-8 in the Quarterfinals round. The four-game sweep is the 24th in the best-of-7 format NBA Quarterfinals, 59th in the best-of-7 format NBA playoffs (all rounds), and 191st in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 format playoff history. Series 1148 is only the tenth best-of-7 NBA playoff series sweep concluded on the home court of the sweeping team, and the first since series 900 (in which the Nets won Game 4 against the Detroit Pistons in New Jersey to sweep their 2003 NBA Semifinals series). The 36-point margin of victory by the Dallas Mavericks over the Los Angeles Lakers in series 1148 Game 4 is the largest ever in Game 4 of a four-game sweep of a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, irrespective of site: The 36-point victory margin breaks the old record of 31 points, set by the Los Angeles Lakers in their 133-pts-102 victory over the Seattle Supersonics in series 496 Game 4 (in conclusion of the Lakers' sweep of their 1987 NBA Semifinals series).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2010-11 regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers finished tied with Dallas; both teams had identical 57-25 records. From 1947 through the 2011 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams were tied with their best-of-7 playoff series opponents in terms of wins, the teams with home-court advantage through whatever tiebreakers were applied have posted an 8-6 (.571) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1148 is the 23rd best-of-7 playoff series for Dallas, and the 96th for the Los Angeles Lakers. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Dallas has a 9-13 series record, a 3-6 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 7-15 Game 1 record, while the Los Angeles Lakers have a 67-28 series record, a 25-7 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 63-32 Game 1 record. Series 1148 is the fourth best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Dallas and the Lakers; Los Angeles won all of the previous three (played in the 1980s).
