With the series 1147 win, the Oklahoma City Thunder improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Quarterfinals; with the series 1147 loss, the Memphis Grizzlies see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the Quarterfinals. In series 1147 Game 3, Memphis trailed the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder by 13 points after the third quarter, but rallied for a 101-pts-93 overtime win: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games before Game 3 of the Memphis-Oklahoma City series, home teams trailing by 13 points after three quarters had only a 1-29 (.033) game record - the only other home team to trail by 13 after three quarters of a best-of-7 NBA playoff game but win the game was the Los Angeles Lakers, in Game 7 of their 2000 NBA Semifinals series against the Portland Trailblazers. Series 1147 Game 4 was only the fifth best-of-7 NBA playoff game to go to triple overtime, and the first since Game 6 of the 2009 NBA Preliminary-round series between the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics (with Chicago winning 128-pts-127 at home) - the game also constituted a fine comeback by Oklahoma City, which trailed by 12 points after the first quarter: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games prior to Memphis-Oklahoma City Game 4, road teams down a dozen after one quarter had a game record of only 7-41 (.146). The Memphis Grizzlies trailed the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder by ten points at halftime in series 1147 Game 6: In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff games, teams trailing by ten points irrespective of site at halftime had only a 19-99 (.161) game record.

From 1947 through the 2011 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by nine regular-season games, they have posted an 18-2 (.900) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1147 is the fifth best-of-7 playoff series for Memphis, and the third for Oklahoma City. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Memphis has a 1-3 series record, a 0-0 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 1-3 Game 1 record, while Oklahoma City has a 1-1 series record, a 0-0 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 1-1 Game 1 record. Series 1147 is the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Memphis and Oklahoma City. The predecessor franchise of the Memphis Grizzlies was the Vancouver Grizzlies; the predecessor franchise of the Oklahoma City Thunder was the Seattle Supersonics; series 1147 constitutes a 2011 NBA Quarterfinals matchup between two natural geographic rivals from the Pacific Northwest.
