SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The San Jose Sharks defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-games-2 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1093. The victorious San Jose Sharks thus improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 10-12 (all rounds) and 9-4 (Preliminary round), while the Colorado Avalanche see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 19-10 (all rounds) and 9-3 (Preliminary round). The win order posted by the victorious San Jose Sharks in series 1093 was LWLWWW: Series 1093 thus becomes the sixth NHL Preliminary-round series, the 15th NHL series (all rounds), and the 28th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow that win order to completion. Trailing series 1093 Game 2 against the Colorado Avalanche by one goal with as little as 33 seconds left in regulation, the San Jose Sharks managed to emerge from Game 2 with a victory: In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series from 1939 through 2009, teams such as San Jose that trailed by one goal with only 33 seconds left in regulation irrespective of site had only a 13-806 (.016) game record. The Colorado Avalanche hosted and defeated the San Jose Sharks 1-goal-nil with an overtime goal in Game 3 of series 1093. The 1-goal-nil overtime victory was the 29th in best-of-7 NHL playoff history, and the second for the Colorado Avalanche on home ice. The first for Colorado? In series 917 (2004 NHL Quarterfinals) Game 4 ... over the San Jose Sharks. The San Jose Sharks won series 1093 Game 4 against the Colorado Avalanche in overtime, marking the third consecutive game in this series to last beyond regulation. Series 1093 thus became the first best-of-7 NHL playoff series to feature three consecutive overtime games since series 1029 (in the 2008 NHL Preliminary round), when Colorado also accomplished this feat (that time with the Minnesota Wild). In series 1093 Game 6, the San Jose Sharks trailed the Avalanche in Colorado by a goal as late as 7:32 into the third period but won the game: In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series from 1939 through 2009, road teams down a goal as late as 7:32 into the third had a game record of only 91-481 (.159).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2009-10 regular season, San Jose finished 18 points ahead of Colorado. From 1939 through the 2009 NHL Finals, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 18 regular-season points, they have posted a 9-6 (.600) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1093 is the 29th best-of-7 playoff series for Colorado, and the 22nd for San Jose. In best-of-7 playoff series, Colorado has a 19-9 series record, a 9-2 Prelim-round series record, and an 18-10 Game 1 record, while San Jose has a 9-12 series record, an 8-4 Prelim-round record, and a 10-11 Game 1 record. Series 1093 is the fourth best-of-7 meeting between Colorado and San Jose: Colorado won the first two; San Jose, the last.
