SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-games-1 to win MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1090. With the series 1090 victory, the Philadelphia Flyers improve their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 34-27 (all rounds) and 10-7 (Preliminary round). With the series 1090 loss, the New Jersey Devils see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 22-17 (all rounds, with an active four-series losing streak) and 9-11 (Preliminary round, with an active three-series losing streak in this round). The series 1090 win order was WLWWW as posted by the victorious Philadelphia Flyers. Series 1090 thus becomes the eighth NHL Preliminary-round series, the 34th NHL series (all rounds), and the 72nd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow a WLWWW win order to completion. Ironically, the last three of four MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series to follow a WLWWW win order to completion were series involving Philadelphia victories: In addition to the just-completed series 1090, series 1055 (by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2008 MLB Finals) and series 1087 (by the Phillies in the 2009 MLB Semifinals) also followed a WLWWW win order to completion. The three total goals allowed on Philadelphia ice by the Flyers in series 1090 were the fewest home-ice goals allowed in a best-of-7 NHL Preliminary-round series lasting five games since 2007, when the Minnesota Wild (series 995) and San Jose Sharks (series 997) also allowed only three such goals. The Philadelphia series 1090 Game 1 victory in New Jersey ended the Flyers' Game 1 losing streak at six.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2009-10 regular season, New Jersey finished 15 points ahead of Philadelphia. From 1939 through the 2009 NHL Finals, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 15 regular-season points, they have posted a 19-6 (.760) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1090 is the 61st best-of-7 playoff series for Philadelphia, and the 39th for New Jersey. In best-of-7 playoff series, Philadelphia has a 33-27 series record, a 9-7 Prelim-round series record, and a 28-32 Game 1 record (with an active six-Game 1 losing streak), while New Jersey has a 22-16 series record (with an active three-series losing streak), a 9-10 Prelim-round record, and a 19-19 Game 1 record. Series 1090 is the fourth best-of-7 meeting between Philadelphia and New Jersey: In their three previous meetings, New Jersey emerged victorious in series 685 (the 1995 NHL Semifinals) and 810 (the 2000 NHL Semifinals), while Philadelphia won series 908 (in the 2004 NHL Preliminary round).
