SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-games-3 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1066, thereby improving their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 51-37 overall and 10-6 in the Quarterfinals, with an active three-series winning streak in the Quarterfinals. With the series 1066 loss, the Anaheim Ducks see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Quarterfinals. The victorious Detroit Red Wings posted a series 1066 win order of WLLWWLW: Series 1066 thus becomes the fifth NHL Quarterfinals series, the ninth NHL series (all rounds), and the 16th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion. The first MLB/NBA/NHL team to follow this win order to completion: The Detroit Red Wings, in series 72 against the Montreal Canadiens in the 1949 NHL Semifinals.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2008-09 regular season, Detroit finished 21 points ahead of Anaheim. From 1939 through the 2009 NHL Preliminary round, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 21 regular-season points, they have posted a 9-3 (.750) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1066 is the seventh best-of-7 playoff series for Anaheim as the "Ducks," and the 88th for Detroit. In best-of-7 playoff series, Anaheim (as the "Ducks" sans the "Mighty") has a 5-1 series record, a 1-0 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 4-2 Game 1 record, while Detroit has a 50-37 series record, a 9-6 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 48-39 Game 1 record. Series 1066 is the second best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between Anaheim (as the "Ducks") and Detroit; Anaheim defeated Detroit 4-games-2 in series 1003 (in the 2007 NHL Semifinals).
