SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Calgary Flames 4-games-2 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1063, thereby improving their best-of-7 NHL series record to 27-37 overall and 6-7 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1063 loss, the Calgary Flames see their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record fall to 11-17 overall and 3-11 in the Preliminary round. The Calgary best-of-7 NHL playoff series losing streak thus reaches five, beginning with series 920 (the 2004 NHL Finals); Chicago wins its first best-of-7 NHL playoff series since series 704, when the Blackhawks defeated the Calgary Flames in the 1996 Preliminary round, 4-games-nil. The victorious Chicago Blackhawks posted a WWLLWW win order in series 1063: Series 1063 thus becomes the 13th NHL Preliminary-round series, the 34th NHL series (all rounds), and the 63rd MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2008-09 regular season, Chicago finished six points ahead of Calgary. From 1939 through the 2008 NHL Finals, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by six regular-season points, they have posted an 18-8 (.692) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents (with an active six-series winning streak). MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1063 is the 28th best-of-7 playoff series for Calgary, and the 64th for Chicago. In best-of-7 playoff series, Calgary has an 11-16 series record (with an active four-series losing streak), a 3-10 Prelim-round series record, and an 11-16 Game 1 record, while Chicago has a 26-37 series record, a 5-7 Prelim-round record, and a 23-40 Game 1 record. Series 1063 is the third best-of-7 meeting between Calgary and Chicago; the teams split their first two meetings.
