SERIES NOTES:

Post-series assessment: The Anaheim Ducks defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-games-2 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1060, thereby improving their best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Preliminary round (since shedding "Mighty" from their sobriquet). Through the series 1060 loss, the San Jose best-of-7 NHL playoff series record falls to 9-12 overall and 8-4 in the Preliminary round. The victorious Ducks posted a WWLWLW win order in series 1060: Series 1060 thus becomes the seventh NHL Preliminary-round series, the 17th NHL series (all rounds), and the 36th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion. With the series 1060 win, the Anaheim Ducks become the first NHL team (in 18 tries) to defeat an opponent in a best-of-7 playoff series upon having trailed that opponent by 26 regular-season points. In that context, series 1060 becomes the 12th-largest upset in the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff series (the largest: in series 580, the Minnesota North Stars finished 38 points behind the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1990-91 NHL regular season, but defeated the Blackhawks 4-games-2 in the 1991 NHL Preliminary round).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2008-09 regular season, San Jose finished 26 points ahead of Anaheim. From 1939 through the 2008 NHL Finals, when NHL teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 26 regular-season points, they have posted a 17-0 (1.000) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1060 is the sixth best-of-7 playoff series for Anaheim as the (no longer Mighty) Ducks, and the 21st for San Jose. In best-of-7 playoff series, Anaheim (as the Ducks) has a 4-1 series record, a 1-1 Prelim-round series record, and a 3-2 Game 1 record, while San Jose has a 9-11 series record, an 8-3 Prelim-round record with a five-series winning streak in the Preliminary round, and a 10-10 Game 1 record. Series 1060 is the first best-of-7 NHL playoff series meeting between Anaheim and San Jose.
