Post-series assessment: The Dallas Mavericks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 4-games-1 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1077, thereby improving their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 8-11 overall and 4-3 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1077 loss, the San Antonio Spurs' best-of-7 NBA playoff series record falls to 24-16 overall and 6-1 in the Preliminary round (both the Spurs and the Detroit Pistons tasted best-of-7 NBA Preliminary round series defeat in 2009, after an NBA-best six consecutive Preliminary-round series victories by each). The victorious Dallas Mavericks posted a series 1077 win order of WLWWW: Series 1077 thus becomes the seventh NBA Preliminary-round series, the 33rd NBA series (all rounds), and the 70th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow such a win order to completion.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2008-09 regular season, San Antonio finished four games ahead of Dallas. From 1947 through the 2008 NBA Finals, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by four regular-season games, they have posted a 17-6 (.739) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents.
