SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: With four unanswered goals in the third period, the host Dallas Stars defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-goals-1 and ousted the defending NHL Stanley Cup champions from the 2008 NHL playoffs with a 4-games-2 victory in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030. The series victory improves the Dallas Stars best-of-7 NHL playoff series record to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in the Preliminary round. The series loss reduces the Anaheim best-of-7 NHL playoff series record (as both the Ducks and the Mighty Ducks) to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in the Preliminary round. The victorious Dallas Stars followed a win order of WWLWLW in series 1030: Series 1030 thus becomes the fifth NHL Preliminary-round series, the fourteenth NHL series (all rounds), and the 30th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order.

After Game 5: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030 back in southern California for Game 5, the host Anaheim Ducks defeated the Dallas Stars 5-goals-2 to narrow the Dallas series 1030 lead to 3-games-2. Both teams have historically been tough in their respective positions: Leading a best-of-7 series 3-games-2, the Dallas Stars have a perfect 6-0 series record and a 5-1 Game 6 record; trailing 3-games-2, the Ducks and the Mighty Ducks combined have a 2-1 series record and a perfect 3-0 Game 6 record.

After Game 4: Winning for the first time on home ice in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030, the Dallas Stars through their 3-goals-1 victory take a 3-games-1 series 1030 lead over the Anaheim Ducks. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-1, the Dallas Stars have a 3-0 series record and a 3-0 Game 5 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 3-games-1, the Ducks in Anaheim (both Mighty and not) have a series record of 0-1 and a Game 5 record of 0-1.

After Game 3: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030 in Texas for Games 3-4, the visiting Anaheim Ducks defeated the host Dallas Stars 4-goals-2 to narrow the Dallas series 1030 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-1, the Dallas Stars have a perfect 8-0 series record and a 3-5 Game 4 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-1, Anaheim - as both the Mighty Ducks and the Ducks - has a 2-1 series record and a perfect 3-0 Game 4 record.

After Game 2: The Dallas Stars once again visited and once again defeated the Anaheim Ducks (5-goals-2, this time) to take a 2-games-nil lead in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030. When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Dallas Stars have a series record of 6-0 and a Game 3 record of 2-4. When trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 2-games-nil, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Ducks (combined) have a series record of 0-4 and a Game 3 record of 1-3. Dallas has won Games 1-2 of series 1030 on the road by a combined seven goals. The last NHL team to win Games 1-2 of a best-of-7 NHL playoff series on the road by a combined seven goals was the Toronto Maple Leafs in series 486: Those Leafs returned home to take a 3-games-1 lead over the Detroit Red Wings, but lost that 1987 NHL Quarterfinals series in seven games to Detroit.

After Game 1: In the most lopsided best-of-7 NHL playoff Game 1 shutout victory achieved on the road since 2003, the Dallas Stars visited and defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-goals-nil for a 1-game-nil MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030 lead. (In the 2003 NHL Preliminary round, the St. Louis Blues visited and defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-goals-nil in series 880 Game 1 - St. Louis would take a 3-games-1 lead in series 880 before losing the series in seven games to Vancouver.) When leading a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Dallas Stars have an 8-1 series record (with an active seven-series winning streak) and a 6-3 Game 2 record; when trailing a best-of-7 NHL playoff series 1-game-nil, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Anaheim Ducks (combined) have a 2-4 series record and a 2-4 Game 2 record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2007-08 regular season, Anaheim finished five points ahead of Dallas. From 1939 through the 2007 NHL Finals, when NHL teams such as Anaheim led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by five regular-season points, they have posted a 23-9 (.719) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 1030 is the 23rd best-of-7 playoff series for Dallas, and the 15th for Anaheim (as both the Ducks and the Mighty Ducks). In best-of-7 playoff series, Dallas has a 12-10 series record (with an active four-series losing streak), a 6-5 Prelim-round series record, and a 9-13 Game 1 record (with a six-Game 1 losing streak), while Anaheim (as both the Ducks and the Mighty Ducks) has a 10-4 series record, a 4-1 Prelim-round record, and an 8-6 Game 1 record. It should be noted that the predecessor to the Dallas Stars in the NHL - the Minnesota North Stars - had a 9-14 best-of-7 playoff series record in 23 total such series. Series 1030 is the second best-of-7 meeting between Dallas and Anaheim: In MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 883, the Anaheim (then-Mighty) Ducks defeated the Dallas Stars in their 2003 NHL Quarterfinals (Conference Semifinals) series in six games.
