SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: Becoming the first team ever (in eight tries) to score eight or fewer points in the third quarter of a best-of-7 NBA playoff game and win the game, the Cleveland Cavaliers visited and defeated the New Jersey Nets 88-pts-72 for a 4-games-2 win in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014. With the series 1014 victory, the Cleveland Cavaliers improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in the Quarterfinals, while that of the New Jersey Nets falls to 8-7 overall and 2-4 (with an active three-series losing streak) in the Quarterfinals. The victorious Cleveland Cavaliers posted a series 1014 win order of WWLWLW: Series 1014 thus becomes the fourth NBA Quarterfinals series, the 15th NBA series (all rounds), and the 29th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order to completion. The eight 3Q-points by Cleveland in Game 6 were the lowest in a best-of-7 NBA playoff game third quarter since series 818 Game 2, in which the Lakers in Los Angeles managed only eight 3Q-points against the Portland Trailblazers en route to a 106-pts-77 loss during their 2000 NBA Semifinals series (which the Lakers nevertheless went on to win in seven games en route to the 2000 NBA championship).

After Game 5: Staving off elimination, the New Jersey Nets visited and vanquished the Cleveland Cavaliers 83-pts-72 to narrow the Cleveland best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014 lead to 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 3-1 and a Game 6 record of 1-3. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the New Jersey Nets have a series record of 0-2 and a Game 6 record of 0-2. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through the 2007 NBA Preliminary round, teams (such as Cleveland in series 1014) that win Game 1, win Game 2, lose Game 3, win Game 4, and lose Game 5 have a 19-1 (.950) series record: The sole favorable precedent (in 20 tries) for the 2007 New Jersey Nets was set in series 691, in which the Houston Rockets surmounted such a series start by the Phoenix Suns to win their 1995 NBA Quarterfinals series.

After Game 4: The Cleveland Cavaliers visited and defeated the New Jersey Nets 87-pts-85 to take a 3-games-1 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014. The Cleveland Cavaliers thus lead a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1 for the first time, having won their first Game 4 (in their third try) upon having held a 2-games-1 best-of-7 NBA playoff series lead. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-1, the New Jersey Nets have a 0-1 series record and a 0-1 Game 5 record - the loss was at the hands of the Miami Heat, in series 981 in the 2006 NBA Quarterfinals.

After Game 3: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014 in New Jersey for Games 3-4, the host Nets defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-pts-85 to cut the Cleveland series 1014 lead to 2-games-1. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 2-0 and a Game 4 record of 0-2. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the New Jersey Nets have a series record of 2-4 and a Game 4 record of 5-1.

After Game 2: The Cleveland Cavaliers again hosted and again defeated the New Jersey Nets, this time by a 102-pts-92 score. Cleveland thus takes a 2-games-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a series record of 1-0 and a Game 3 record of 1-0 (both coming at the expense of the Washington Wizards, whom Cleveland ousted in series 1006 [in the 2007 NBA Preliminary round]). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the New Jersey Nets have a series record of 0-3 and a Game 3 record of 1-2. In those three series, the Nets were twice swept, but in series 930, New Jersey rallied to take Games 3-5 before losing Games 6-7 to the eventual NBA champion Detroit Pistons in the 2004 NBA Quarterfinals.

After Game 1: The Cleveland Cavaliers hosted and defeated the New Jersey Nets 81-pts-77 to take a 1-game-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a perfect series record of 3-0 and a Game 2 record of 1-2. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the New Jersey Nets have a series record of 1-4 and a Game 2 record of 2-3. The Nets, while with a best-of-7 NBA series mark of only 1-4 after a Game 1 loss, won their last such series (series 974, over the Indiana Pacers in the 2006 NBA Preliminary round in six games).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2006-07 regular season, Cleveland finished nine games ahead of New Jersey. From 1905 through the 2007 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by nine regular-season games, they have posted a 14-1 (.933) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1014 is the 15th best-of-7 playoff series for New Jersey, and the ninth for Cleveland. In best-of-7 playoff series, New Jersey has an 8-6 series record, a 2-3 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 9-5 Game 1 record, while Cleveland has a 4-4 series record, a 2-2 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 3-5 Game 1 record. Series 1014 is the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between New Jersey and Cleveland.
