SERIES NOTES:

After Game 4: In Orlando, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Magic 97-pts-93 to win best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1005 in a four-game sweep, thus securing a berth in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1013 against an opponent to be determined. With the series 1005 victory, the Detroit Pistons improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 22-13 overall and 5-0 in the Preliminary round. With the series 1005 loss, the Orlando Magic see their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record fall to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Preliminary round. The four-game sweep was the third achieved by the Detroit Pistons, and the third suffered by the Orlando Magic. Series 1005 is the seventh NBA Preliminary-round series, the 47th NBA series (all rounds), and the 167th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to end in a four-game sweep.

After Game 3: The Detroit Pistons visited and defeated the Orlando Magic 93-pts-77 to take a 3-games-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1005. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the Detroit Pistons have a series record of 2-0 and a Game 4 record of 2-0. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-nil, the Orlando Magic have a series record of 0-2 and a Game 4 record of 0-2. Since the NBA adopted the best-of-7 format for its Preliminary (Conference Quarterfinals) round in 2003, seven teams had previously taken 3-games-nil leads: Of these seven, the first (the Dallas Mavericks, in series 894) lost Games 4-6 to the Portland Trailblazers and had to salvage Game 7 at home to preserve the series victory; since then, the subsequent six took care of matters at hand by winning Game 4 in each case, not only to win but also to sweep each series. Orlando led briefly in the first quarter of series 1005 Game 3, but has yet to lead at the end of any quarter thus far in series 1005. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series from 1947 through 2006, teams winning Game 3 by 15+ points to take a 3-games-nil lead (such as the 2007 Detroit Pistons) have a 17-0 series record and an 11-6 Game 4 record with a five-Game 4 winning streak. With the Game 3 win, Detroit breaks a seven-Game 3 losing streak upon holding a two-games-nil series lead, while Orlando is now 0-3 in Game 3 upon having trailed two-games-nil.

After Game 2: With a second consecutive eight-point victory margin, the Detroit Pistons hosted and defeated the Orlando Magic 98-pts-90 to take a 2-games-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1005. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Detroit Pistons have a perfect 9-0 series record but a 2-7 Game 3 record (with an active seven-Game 3 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-nil, the Orlando Magic have a perfect 0-2 series record (both losses were four-game sweeps) and a 0-2 Game 3 record. Series 1005 has become the first best-of-7 NBA playoff series in which the team taking the 2-games-nil lead won both games by eight points. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series (from 1947 through 2006), teams such as Detroit that win Game 1 by 8+ points and win Game 2 by 8+ points have a 64-4 (.941) series record.

After Game 1: The Detroit Pistons hosted and defeated the Orlando Magic 100-pts-92 to take a 1-game-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1005. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Detroit Pistons have a series record of 18-3 (with an active nine-series winning streak) and a Game 2 record of 9-12. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Orlando Magic have a series record of 0-2 and a Game 2 record of 0-2. Detroit has now defeated Orlando in four consecutive best-of-7 format NBA playoff games, dating back to series 888 (in which Detroit won Games 5-7 to win series 888, 4-games-3).

Pre-series assessment: In the 2006-07 NBA regular season, Detroit finished 13 games ahead of Orlando. From 1947 through the 2006 NBA Finals, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 13 regular-season games, they have posted a 7-2 (.778) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. Best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 1005 is the seventh best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Orlando, and the 35th for Detroit. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Orlando has a 3-3 series record, a 0-1 Prelim-round series record, and a 4-2 Game 1 record, while Detroit has a 21-13 series record, a 4-0 Prelim-round record, and a 21-13 Game 1 record. Series 1005 is the second best-of-7 NBA playoff series meeting between Orlando and Detroit: In series 888 (in the 2003 NBA Preliminary round), Orlando took a 3-games-1 lead over Detroit, but the Pistons rallied with three straight victories for a 4-games-3 comeback series 888 win.
