SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: Despite trailing at home by 14 points at halftime, the San Antonio Spurs forced a Game 7 overtime vs. the Dallas Mavericks -- only to lose in overtime to Dallas, 119-pts-111. The Dallas Mavericks thus win best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982, 4-games-3, and thwart the San Antonio effort to win a best-of-7 series after having trailed 3-games-1. The 14-point halftime deficit by San Antonio was the largest surmounted in a Game 7 to force overtime. Series 982 Game 7 was the sixth Game 7 in best-of-7 NBA playoff history to go to overtime; home teams are now 4-2 in Game 7s that go to overtime, having lost the last two such games. The win order by the victorious Dallas Mavericks in series 982 was LWWWLLW: Series 982 thus becomes the third NBA Quarterfinals series, the sixth NBA series (all rounds), and the 12th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order. With the series 982 victory, the Dallas Mavericks improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 6-8, while the series 982 loss drops the San Antonio Spurs' best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 18-14.

After Game 6: The San Antonio Spurs visited and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 91-pts-86 to tie best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982 at 3-games-all. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the San Antonio Spurs have a Game 7 record of 2-3, while that for the Dallas Mavericks is 3-1 with a three-series winning streak. MLB/NBA/NHL teams (all rounds) posting a win/site order of WLLLWW @ HHVVHV (such as San Antonio) have a 2-5 series record; earlier in the Spring 2006 playoff season, the Phoenix Suns snapped a five-series losing streak in that situation with a series 977 comeback against the Los Angeles Lakers. If the San Antonio Spurs should win series 982, then 2006 would become the first NBA playoff season in which more than one team 1) trailed a best-of-7 series but 2) rallied to win the series.

After Game 5: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982 back in San Antonio, the Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 98-pts-97 to narrow the Mavericks' series lead to 3-games-2. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 4-0. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 0-8. NHL and NBA teams in a best-of-7 Quarterfinals round that post a LWWWL win order (such as Dallas) have gone on to a series victory 14 out of 15 times, and have a 14-series winning streak.

After Game 4: The Dallas Mavericks hosted and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 123-pts-118 in overtime to take a 3-games-1 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982. When leading 3-games-1 in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 1-0. When trailing 3-games-1 in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the San Antonio Spurs have a perfect series record of 0-5.

After Game 3: The Dallas Mavericks hosted and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 104-pts-103 to take a 2-games-1 lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982. When leading 2-games-1 in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 1-0. When trailing 2-games-1 in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the San Antonio Spurs have a perfect series record of 0-9.

After Game 2: The Dallas Mavericks visited and defeated the San Antonio Spurs 113-pts-91 to knot best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982 at 1-game-all. When tied 1-game-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 2-3, while that for the San Antonio Spurs is 5-6 (but with a four-series winning streak for San Antonio).

After Game 1: The San Antonio Spurs hosted and defeated the Dallas Mavericks 87-pts-85 for a 1-game-nil best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 982 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 15-3 with a four-series winning streak. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Dallas Mavericks have a series record of 3-7.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2005-06 regular season, San Antonio finished three games ahead of Dallas. From 1947 through the 2006 NBA and NHL Preliminary rounds, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by three regular-season games, they have posted a 10-11 (.476) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 982 is the 14th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Dallas, and the 32nd for San Antonio. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Dallas has a 5-8 series record, a 2-5 Qtrs-round series record, and a 3-10 Game 1 record, while San Antonio has an 18-13 series record, an 8-8 Qtrs-round record, and an 18-13 Game 1 record. Series 982 is the third best-of-7 meeting between Dallas and San Antonio, San Antonio defeated Dallas in their previous two best-of-7 playoff series.
