SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: Winning MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 948 in Indiana 4-games-2, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Pacers 88-pts-79 in Game 6 of their series. With the series 948 win, the Detroit Pistons improve their best-of-7 NBA series record to 18-11 overall and 8-5 in the Quarterfinals. With the series 948 loss, the Indiana Pacers see their best-of-7 NBA series record fall to 9-8 overall and 6-1 in the Quarterfinals. The win order for series 948 was WLLWWW, as posted by the victorious Detroit Pistons. Series 948 thus becomes the third NBA Quarterfinals series, the fifth NBA playoff series (all rounds), and the 25th MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series (all rounds) to post such a win order.

After Game 5: With MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 948 in Detroit for Game 5, the host Pistons defeated the Indiana Pacers 86-pts-67 for a 3-games-2 series 948 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Detroit Pistons have a 6-1 series record (with an active five-series winning streak) and a 5-2 Game 6 record (with a three-Game-6 winning streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Indiana Pacers have a 0-6 series record and a 2-4 Game 6 record (with an active four-Game-6 losing streak). The last team in the NBA Quarterfinals (Conference Semifinals) to lead 3-games-2 with a site order of HHVVH but lose the series was the Miami Heat in series 814, losing in 2000 to the New York Knickerbockers; those 2000 Knicks thus set the most recent favorable precedent for the 2005 Indiana Pacers. (Ironically, it was the Indiana Pacers which then defeated those New York Knickerbockers in the 2000 NBA Semifinals.)

After Game 4: Tying MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 948 at 2-games-all, the Detroit Pistons visited and defeated the Indiana Pacers 89-pts-76 in series 948 Game 4. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Detroit Pistons have a 7-6 series record (but with an active six-series winning streak) and a 7-6 Game 5 record, while the Indiana Pacers have a 3-5 series record and a 4-4 Game 5 record.

After Game 3: The Indiana Pacers hosted and defeated the Detroit Pistons 79-pts-74 in MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 948 Game 3. Indiana thus takes a 2-games-1 series 948 lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Indiana Pacers have a perfect 6-0 series record and a 3-3 Game 4 record (but with an active three-Game-4 losing streak). When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 2-games-1, the Detroit Pistons have a 3-7 series record and a 7-3 Game 4 record. The 153 total points scored in series 948 Game 3 is the lowest game total thus far in the 2005 NBA playoffs, and the lowest since series 933 (2004 NBA Semifinals) Game 6, in which the Detroit Pistons defeated the Indiana Pacers 69-pts-65 to eliminate the Pacers from the 2004 playoffs.

After Game 2: Tying MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 playoff series 948 at 1-game-all, the Indiana Pacers defeated the Pistons in Detroit 92-pts-83 in series 948 Game 2. When tied 1-game-all in an NBA best-of-7 playoff series, the Detroit Pistons have a 10-5 series record (with an active four-series winning streak) and an 8-7 series record (with an active three-Game-3 winning streak), while the Indiana Pacers have a 3-3 series record and a 3-3 Game 3 record. Games 3-4 of series 948 will be in Indiana.

After Game 1: The Detroit Pistons hosted and defeated the Indiana Pacers 96-pts-81 to win MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 948 Game 1. Detroit has a 14-3 series record and a 7-10 Game 2 record when leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil; Indiana has a 1-6 series record and a 3-4 Game 2 record when trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil. In the history of best-of-7 NBA playoff series, when a team wins Game 1 by a 15-point margin (as Detroit did in series 948), its series record is a perfect 7-0.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2004-05 regular season, the Detroit Pistons finished 10 games ahead of the Indiana Pacers. From 1947 through the 2005 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by 10 regular-season games, they have posted a 15-3 (.833) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 948 is the 17th best-of-7 NBA playoff series for Indiana, and the 29th for Detroit. In best-of-7 NBA playoff series, Indiana has a 9-7 series record, a perfect 6-0 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 9-7 Game 1 record, while Detroit has a 17-11 series record, a 7-5 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 17-11 Game 1 record. The Detroit Pistons have won their last eight best-of-7 NBA Quarterfinals Game 1s. Series 948 is the second best-of-7 NBA playoff meeting between the Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons; the first, series 933 in the 2004 NBA Semifinals (Conference Finals), ended with a Detroit victory in six games.
