SERIES NOTES:

After Game 7: Winning best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930 Game 7 at home, the Detroit Pistons defeated the New Jersey Nets 90-pts-69 to capture a 4-games-3 series 930 victory. With the series victory, the Detroit Pistons improve their best-of-7 NBA playoff series records to 14-11 (overall) and 7-5 (Quarterfinals); those of the New Jersey Nets fall to 6-4 (overall) and 2-2 (Quarterfinals). The win order for the victorious team in series 930 was WWLLLWW: Series 930 thus becomes the third NBA Quarterfinals series, the sixth NBA series (all rounds), and the 16th MLB/NBA/NHL series (all rounds) to follow this win order.

After Game 6: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930 Game 6 in New Jersey, the Detroit Pistons defeated the host Nets 81-pts-75 to tie series 930 at 3-games-all. The Detroit Pistons have an overall NBA playoff Game 7 record of 2-3 and a home Game 7 record of 2-0; the New Jersey Nets will be playing their first NBA playoff Game 7 on Thursday.

After Game 5: Through Friday, 1797 best-of-7 NBA playoff games have been played, and of those 1797, best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL series 930 Game 5 was only the third to require three overtime periods to reach a decision. That decision: The visiting New Jersey Nets defeated the Detroit Pistons 127-pts-120 to take a 3-games-2 series 930 lead. The previous two best-of-7 NBA playoff games to require three overtime periods were series 647 Game 3 (in which the Phoenix Suns visited and defeated the Chicago Bulls 129-pts-121 in the 1993 NBA Finals) and series 320 Game 5 (in which the Phoenix Suns visited and lost to the Boston Celtics 128-pts-126 in the 1976 NBA Finals). When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the New Jersey Nets have a 2-0 series record (all rounds) and a 2-0 Game 6 record. When trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Detroit Pistons have a 1-6 series record (all rounds; with the sole win occurring in the last such series - series 888 vs. the Orlando Magic in the 2003 Preliminary round) and a 3-4 Game 6 record.

After Game 4: The New Jersey Nets hosted and defeated the Detroit Pistons 94-pts-79 to win best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930 Game 4, thus tying series 930 at 2-games-all. When tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Detroit Pistons have a 5-6 series record (all rounds, and with a current four-series winning streak) and a 6-5 Game 5 record (with an active 6-Game 5 winning streak), while the New Jersey Nets have a 2-2 series record (all rounds) and a 2-2 Game 5 record. In the 2003 NBA Quarterfinals (series 896, in particular), the Detroit Pistons also established a win/site order of WWLL @ HHVV, before winning Game 5 at home and Game 6 on the road to oust the Philadelphia 76ers from the 2003 NBA playoffs and advance to the 2003 NBA Semifinals (to face and lose to the New Jersey Nets in series 900).

After Game 3: With best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930 in New Jersey for Game 3, the host Nets defeated the Detroit Pistons 82-pts-64. Detroit now holds a 2-games-1 lead in series 930. When leading an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-1, the Detroit Pistons have a series record of 8-1 (with an active eight-series winning streak) and a Game 4 record of 5-4. When trailing an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-1, the New Jersey Nets have a series record of 1-2 and a Game 4 record of 3-0. In best-of-7 NBA playoff history from 1947 through the 2004 NBA Preliminary round, when a team wins Games 1-2 at home but loses Game 3 on the road by 18 or more points (as Detroit has in series 930), its series record is 18-4 (.818) with an active seven-series winning streak.

After Game 2: In best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930 Game 2, the host Detroit Pistons fell behind the New Jersey Nets by 12 points at halftime, but rallied to win 95-pts-80 and take a 2-games-nil series 930 lead. In best-of-7 NBA playoffs history since 1947 but just prior to series 930 Game 2, when a team was down by twelve at the half (as Detroit was in Game 2), its game record was only 6-55 (.098) overall and 3-14 (.176) at home. When leading an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-nil, the Detroit Pistons have a perfect series record of 5-0 (all rounds) and a Game 3 record of 2-3 (and an active three-Game 3 losing streak). When trailing an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-nil, the New Jersey Nets have a 0-1 series record and a 0-1 Game 3 record (courtesy of series 869 - the 2002 NBA Finals vs. the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers). Through two games of series 930, Detroit has outscored New Jersey by 37 points. That 37-point total victory margin is tied for tenth-most on a list of total victory margins by teams leading an NBA best-of-7 playoff series 2-games-nil.

After Game 1: The Detroit Pistons hosted and defeated the New Jersey Nets 78-pts-56 to take a 1-game-nil lead in best-of-7 MLB/NBA/NHL playoff series 930. The two teams had scored a combined total of only 62 points in the first half - the lowest such total in a best-of-7 NBA playoff game since series 100 Game 2 (in the 1954 NBA Finals) in which the Syracuse Nationals led the Lakers in Minneapolis 28-pts-27 at halftime. The 56 points by the New Jersey Nets were the fewest in a best-of-7 NBA playoff game since series 769 Game 3 (the 1998 NBA Finals), in which the Utah Jazz tallied only 54 points vs. the Bulls in Chicago. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Detroit Pistons have an 11-3 overall series record and a 5-9 Game 2 record; when trailing 1-game-nil, the New Jersey Nets have a 0-2 overall series record and a 1-1 Game 2 record.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2003-04 regular season, Detroit finished seven games ahead of New Jersey. From 1947 through the 2004 NBA Preliminary round, when NBA teams led their best-of-7 playoff series opponents by seven regular-season games, they have posted a 13-2 (.867) best-of-7 series record in those series against those opponents, with an active 12-series winning streak. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 930 is the tenth best-of-7 playoff series for New Jersey, and the 25th for Detroit. In best-of-7 playoff series, New Jersey has a 6-3 series record, a 2-1 Quarterfinals-round series record, and a 7-2 Game 1 record, while Detroit has a 13-11 series record, a 6-5 Quarterfinals-round record, and a 14-10 Game 1 record. Series 930 is the second best-of-7 meeting between New Jersey and Detroit; New Jersey won the previous series between the two (sweeping series 900 - a 2003 NBA Semifinals series).
