SERIES NOTES:

After Game 6: The San Antonio Spurs improved their best-of-7 NBA playoff series record to 9-12 by defeating the Phoenix Suns in Phoenix, 87-pts-85, to win MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 892 by a 4-games-2 margin. The Phoenix Suns see their best-of-7 NBA playoffs record fall to 8-15. The win order for the San Antonio Spurs was LWWLWW; series 892 is the 22nd MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series to follow that win order, and the fourth NBA series to do so.

After Game 5: MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 892 returned to San Antonio for Game 5, and the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Phoenix Suns 94-pts-82 to take a 3-games-2 series 892 lead. When the San Antonio Spurs lead a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, their series record is 2-1; when trailing a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 3-games-2, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 1-7, with the sole win occurring in best-of-7 series 319 (vs. the Golden State Warriors in the 1976 NBA Semifinals).

After Game 4: Despite trailing by a significant margin early in the fourth quarter, the Phoenix Suns rallied to defeat the San Antonio Spurs on Phoenix' home court, 86-pts-84, thereby tying MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 892 at 2-games-all. Tied 2-games-all in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 3-4, while the San Antonio Spurs have a series record (and a Game 5 record) of 0-4.

After Game 3: MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 892 may have shifted to Arizona, but it was the San Antonio Spurs who emerged victorious, setting the Suns 99-pts-86 to take a 2-games-1 series 892 lead over those Phoenix Suns. Up 2-games-1 in an NBA best-of-7 series, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 4-1; down 2-games-1, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 1-7 with a series losing streak of seven series and current.

After Game 2: The San Antonio Spurs evened series 892 in Texas, defeating the Phoenix Suns 84-pts-76. When tied in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-all, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 1-6, while that for the Phoenix Suns is 7-2.

After Game 1: Opening series 892 in Texas, the Phoenix Suns nevertheless defeated the San Antonio Spurs 96-pts-95 in overtime to take a 1-game-nil series lead. When leading a best-of-7 NBA playoff series 1-game-nil, the Phoenix Suns have a series record of 5-3; when trailing 1-game-nil, the San Antonio Spurs have a series record of 0-10.

Pre-series assessment: In the 2002-03 regular season, the San Antonio Spurs finished 16 games ahead of the Phoenix Suns. From 1947 through 2002, when an NBA team led its best-of-7 playoff series opponent by 16 regular-season games, it has gone on to post a 7-1 best-of-7 series record (with a current seven-series winning streak) against that opponent. MLB/NBA/NHL best-of-7 series 892 is the 21st best-of-7 playoff series for the San Antonio Spurs and the 23rd for the Phoenix Suns. In best-of-7 playoff series, San Antonio has an 8-12 series record and a 10-10 Game 1 record, while Phoenix has an 8-14 series record and an 8-14 Game 1 record. Series 892 is the second best-of-7 meeting between San Antonio and Phoenix (Phoenix won the first). The San Antonio Spurs last played in a best-of-7 NBA playoff series in 2002; the Phoenix Suns last did so in 2000.
