The sweep of Los Angeles by Detroit is the 14th sweep in best-of-7 NHL Prelim round play, the 87th sweep in best-of-7 NHL playoffs (all rounds), and the 141th sweep in best-of-7 MLB, NBA, and NHL playoffs (all rounds). The sweep is the eleventh by the Detroit Red Wings, and their third in the NHL Prelim round; the sweep is the fifth suffered by the Los Angeles Kings, and their second in the NHL Prelim round. But the sweep was also an annihilation for the Red Wings: Not for one second did Los Angeles hold a lead in this best-of-7 series. This annihilation was the first since Detroit's annihilation of San Jose in the 1995 Qtrs, the third in NHL Prelim best-of-7 round play, and the fifteenth in NHL best-of-7 playoffs. Of the 240 minutes played in the series, 45:09 was spent tied, Detroit led by one goal for 103:24, Detroit led by two goals for 87:49, and Detroit led by three goals for 3:38.
