Game 5: Buffalo wins at Toronto, 4-2. Buffalo wins the series in five games, and therein improves its Game 5 record in the NHL best-of-7 Semis to an NHL-best 4-0. Buffalo thus improves its series record in NHL best-of-7 Semis to 2-2, while Toronto's series record in this round falls to 12-15.

Game 4: Buffalo wins vs. Toronto, 5-2. Faced once before with a WLWW start in a best-of-7 NHL playoff round, Buffalo won Game 5 and the series on that occasion (the 1998 Prelim round, vs. the Philadelphia Flyers).
