1999 NBA Semifinals round - Series 792.
New York Knickerbockers vs Indiana Pacers

Game 6: New York wins vs. Indiana, 90-82. New York wins the series in six games, WLWLWW. New York thus improves its NBA Semis series record to 5-4, while the series record of Indiana in the NBA Semis falls to 0-4. The Indiana Semis-round series record is a new low, taking the place of that previously held by the San Antonio Spurs (which had a series record of 0-4 before winning the Western Conference Finals this season).

Game 5: New York wins at Indiana, 101-94. New York surmounted a 14-28 deficit at the end of the 1st Quarter to win by 7. In a best-of-7 NBA playoff series, once before has a home team led 28-14 after one quarter: That team was the Chicago Bulls in Game 5 of the 1974 NBA Qtrs vs. Detroit -- Chicago won that game by 4. Through 1998 in best-of-7 action, the home team that had a 14-point lead after one quarter had a game record of 22-2 in all NBA rounds, and a game record of 4-0 in NBA Semis action.

Game 4: Indiana wins at New York, 90-78. Through 1998, four times before in a best-of-7 NBA Semis round has a team won Game 1 and lost Game 2 on the road, then won Game 3 and lost Game 4 at home. In those four series, only once (1988 Detroit Pistons) did that team win the series. In 4th games of NBA best-of-7 Semifinals action, Indiana improves its NBA-best record to 4-0.

Game 3: New York wins vs. Indiana, 92-91. With the Knicks' 1-point win in Game 3, Series 792 sets an NBA record for the closest best-of-7 series through three games. The sum of the margins of victory in this series is 3+2+1 = 6. That breaks the previous low of 7, set in the 1980 NBA Qtrs by the Seattle Supersonics and the Milwaukee Bucks (Seattle won Game 1 by one; Milwaukee won Game 2 by two and Game 3 by four). Indiana loses its first Semis-round Game 3.

Game 2: Indiana wins vs. New York, 88-86. Indiana wins its first game in four tries in Game 2 of an NBA Semis series. Indiana's Game 2 record is now 1-3, while New York's falls to 6-3. In six previous best-of-7 series, Indiana has never begun by losing Game 1 and winning Game 2. New York has a series record of 3-4 when the Knicks win Game 1 and lose Game 2. Through 1998, only three NBA teams had led by 9 at half-time and won by 2 in a best-of-7 series: All three were at home; the last was the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the 1986 NBA Qtrs.

Game 1: New York wins at Indiana, 93-90. Indiana's record in first games of best-of-7 Semis series falls to 0-4, which ties the Philadelphia Warriors franchise for an NBA low. The New York Knicks become the first franchise since the 1989 Chicago Bulls to win a first game on the road in both a best-of-7 Qtrs and best-of-7 Semis round in the same season. Other teams to do so are Houston in 1981, Portland in 1977, and Boston in 1969.

Pre-series history. In NBA best-of-7 Semifinals action, the Indiana Pacers' series record is 0-3 (0.00%) and the New York Knicks' series record is 4-4 (50.00%); Indiana's game record is 9-12 (42.86%) and New York's game record is 24-24 (50.00%).

Indiana finished 6 games ahead of New York in the 1998-99 NBA regular season.

In previous NBA best-of-7 Semifinals action, the team with the 6-game lead has a series record of 2-1.
