2023 NHL Redux:
The 2023 best-of-7 NHL playoff season required 88 games to crown a champion, down from 89 in 2022 but up from 84 in 2021. Since the NHL adopted the format of four best-of-7 playoff rounds in 1987, the most games in a best-of-7 NHL playoff season have been 93 (in 2014), while the fewest games in a best-of-7 NHL playoff season have been 81 (in 1995 and in 2007).

2023 NBA Redux:
The 2023 best-of-7 NBA playoff season required 84 games to crown a champion, the fewest since 83 in 2020. Since the NBA adopted the format of four best-of-7 playoff rounds in 2003, the most total games in a best-of-7 NBA playoff season have been 89 (in 2006 and in 2014), while the least have been 79 (in 2007 and in 2017). The Denver Nuggets required 20 best-of-7 NBA playoff games in 2023 to win the 2023 NBA championship, the fewest since the Golden State Warriors won the 2017 NBA championship in 17 best-of-7 NBA playoff games.

Comeback of Spring 2023:
On Monday 24 April 2023, on Spring 2023 Day 10, the Toronto Maple Leafs trailed the host Tampa Bay Lightning by three goals as late as 9:43 into the third period, but won in overtime. In the history of best-of-7 NHL playoff games from 1939 through 2022, inclusive, road teams down three goals as late as 9:43 into the third period had a game record of only 1-332 (.003). The Toronto Maple Leafs thus achieve a grade-A in-game comeback. The sole previous victory by a road team in that situation was tallied by the St. Louis Blues, which trailed the Kings in Los Angeles by three goals as late as 9:58 into the third period of series 755 Game 3 (in the 1998 NHL Preliminary round), but tallied four goals at 9:59, 11:03, 11:59, and 13:06 into the third period to record a 4-goals-3 comeback victory over the host Kings.
