Fall 2014 Days 8-11:
On Friday 17 October through Monday 20 October, the Kansas City Royals and San Francisco Giants prepare for the 2014 World Series, with Game 1 in Kansas City Tuesday 21 October. The page for the corresponding historical victory probabilities is now available via the corresponding link in the column at left.

Winners Down One After 7.5:
The Giants in San Francisco trailed St. Louis by one run after 7.5 innings of 2014 National League Championship Series Game 5, but rallied to win the game and thus the series. In the history of best-of-7 MLB playoff games prior to 2014 NLCS Game 5, home teams down a run after 7.5 innings had only a 33-84 (.282) game record. In the 2002 NLCS, the St. Louis Cardinals led the Giants in San Francisco by one run after 7.5 innings of Game 5, but lost the game and thus the series 4-games-1 to the Giants. A dozen years later, the scenario replays itself.

Four Home Runs:
The 2014 American League champion Royals scored a total of four runs in Kansas City in the 2014 American League Championship Series - the fewest runs at home by a victorious MLB team in a best-of-7 playoff series since the White Sox plated only four runs in Chicago en route to a 2005 ALCS win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Swept Series; Close Games:
The sum of the victory margins in the 2014 American League Championship Series was six runs, which ties the 1915 World Series, the 1950 World Series, and the 2005 World Series for best-of-7 MLB playoff series with the smallest sum of victory margins. The sum of the victory margins in the 2014 ALCS (six runs) was the smallest ever in a best-of-7 MLB Semifinals series, breaking the previous record of seven runs in the 1999 National League Championship Series (in which the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets in six games).
